Froch vs Groves

Was a bit a bit of a chess match! I thought Froch was in front although it was pretty close Groves did land a few nice clean shots but wow, he know knocked the **** out  came out of nowhere!

Not sure why Groves thought he was going to knock him out after the last fight where Froch took all he could throw at him.

Would have loved to have been there!

A true champ.

Groves' only weakness is his brain really, that shot from Froch would have floored most fighters. In the first fight he should have seen out the final few rounds defensively but got caught and last night he left himself a bit open again. All the chat about knocking Froch out was misguided as I think he could have outboxed Froch over 12 rounds if he'd played it sensibly.

Froch has had an amazing career but I don't think he's a great fighter. Massively over reliant on his chin and power over technique to dig him out of a tough spot. It'll be interesting to see where he goes next. He'll have no trouble with DeGale if that's what he decides, so I hope he goes to the States instead.

I've also got serious reservations over how this fight came to be - would Froch-Groves have sold out Wembley without the "controversy" of the first fight? It turned out to be a nice payday for all concerned...

You can't take anything a fighter says building up to the fight seriously. They say anything to generate hype and wind up their opponent. Groves did well upto the KO against a world class opponent. Don't forget he was the underdog when he beat Degale and a lot of people thought he had no business in the ring with Froch before their first bout. So he's done well imo and made himself some money, just came up short tonight and got caught by a wicked punch. He deserves much respect and has achieved more than the vast majority.

Froch is great but I think Degale might give him some problems and Ward would beat him if they fight again.

I think Groves let it all get to him tbh, if he had followed a similar path to the first fight and came out and laid into Froch, he would have had more joy.

Shame I wanted Groves to knock him out.

How is he a waste of space? He fought quite well up until that point. You have no idea what you're on about.

Fair play to Froch, if anybody was going to land a punch like that it was him. But what I saw from Groves tonight, is that he can cope with the best.

Oh sorry, didn't realise I was talking to a seasoned boxing veteran.

I wasn't referring to his boxing skills either, more the fact that he is a complete tool who made himself look like an idiot the entire pre-fight build up and then offered nothing that he said he would. So glad that he got knocked out the way he did, just a shame that wasn't the first punch of the fight.

I'd love to see a Froch-Ward rematch but I don't think it's going to happen, Froch will want to go out on a high.

It might well happen. It will have to if they both keep winning. Froch has about 3 or 4 fights left in him.

So glad he won, he's idolized around here. See him jogging round town like your everyday Joe and being respectful to everyone. The public sparring session he did last week was great and all.

He's a good champ.

Froch getting picked off at ease and not being able to touch Ward for 12 rounds isn't a fight I'd like to see again. Ward's a level above Froch so I'd rather see him fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Vegas.

This is why I love boxing - have to agree with what was said a few posts before - it was defiantly a chess match - both weary of the other and not wanting to over-commit and tire too much for the later rounds - epic punch, set up perfectly (and while I've never been too big into paulies career - have to love him as a commentator, which has actually made me follow his career more ha!, -he recapped the final blow perfectly - feint to close the gap, setup - right :) )

That punch and the way Groves folds over on his leg

e: Also was it just me or was that ring tiny?

As i said earlier both are monumental douchebags but im glad Froch knocked Groves out in the end. Probably because Groves is a Chelsea supporter and a mouthy little cockney gob****e.

Was one hell of a punch from Froch though:eek:. Groves didnt stand a chance after that...pardon the pun:p

Not convinced.
DeGale's punch says hello to Groves' glass chin.

Groves is not world class. Simple.

I wouldn't exactly say Groves has a glass chin, that was a serious punch that would have dropped pretty much everyone.

Degale isn't world class either, as we will find out when he fights anyone of any merit (as we did when he fought Groves).

2 last fights and 2 one punch knockouts say Groves DOES have a problem chin.
And I think if the fight was arranged, DeGale would put that loudmouth Groves on his arse too. He reminded me so much of that arse Eubank with his idiotic entrance, shame he doesnt have his chin or his punch.

Problem chin? That punch would've put most fighters to sleep and the previous fight Groves took a hell of a lot of punishment that wouldn't also put most fighters down. He doesn't have a problem chin at all, he does have a problem mouth though.

I wouldn't go as far as to say he has a glass chin, but at the same time he is no Calzaghe / Froch / Early-Hatton etc.
