From 4770k to 2700x, does it even make sense?

Seems like only yesterday we were all praising the 4770k for its ability to keep up with the latest cpus.

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/4770k-the-cpu-that-just-keeps-on-giving.18806416/

I wonder if Spectre and Meltdown patches have made us see otherwise..
For me it was upgrading to a new GPU and seeing for the first time in my life what CPU bottleneck is (seeing the gpu rarely at 99% usage).

But of course it is game dependant: with horizon 4 is almost 99%.

Well ive had stutter issues on my 4770k and 4790k. Thought it was hardware related. Thing is.. it wasn't. It was windows all along(and worse with each creator update). Im not saying that a 2700x wont give an overall better experience but after fixing my windows situation everything is running sublime again on my 4790k/1080ti combo. What i find extremely stupid is the amount of hours i had to spend inorder for me to figure out the issue, that i have to use a stripped version of windows 10 LTSB build 1607. But atleast its working. I would say that me betting on the i7 haswell instead of the i5 back in the day was a good choice.

I mean i am matching the 8700k@stock in cinebench singlethread performance(going by guru3d's numbers) with an oc of 4,7ghz and tight timings on the ram. Not to bad for a 4 year old processor. Sure i know the second you OC the 8700k or run into a 8+ thread optimized workload it will leave my 4790k in the dust and so will the 2700x most likely but games such as BF1 are a joy to play now on 64 player servers staying above 120fps at 1440p at all time. All it took was a proper version of windows..

Exactly why I was nearly tempted by the 2600/2700, When you do the maths for your own specific usage, it's just not worth it.
I still have my 2600k system (now mines) that I bought from release day and that was only replaced 2 years ago by a 2nd hand 4770k itx setup. Ddr4 pricing is also a joke too.

I'm seeing this more and more with Windows 10 - though the extra cores/threads on some of these CPUs help a bit.

For a lot of stuff unless it is actually using 8+ cores I'm not really seeing any need to move on from my mildly overclocked 4820K at the moment and atleast out of the games I play there is nothing that uses multi-threads enough to make it worth an upgrade on that side yet.

How would I get that build of windows? I'm having some stutter issues. too

Well it seems like MS has caught on the fact that a lot of people have switched to LTSB for their gaming rigs so its difficult to find now on MS's own site. There are other places that hosts these files but i wont be sharing any links.. however they could be revealed by searching google for something like windows 10 ltsb iso and the site i have in mind has a name that remind you of the human organ for seeing and i think its european too *wink wink* happy goose hunt. Ohh and you need a valid key of course to activate whatever windows version you end up using.
