From 5820K to...?

So I keep being told. But I am fine with the RX 590 as it can still play the latest games at 1080p and most with settings maxed out. I'll wait for the new AMD Zen 3 CPUs and see what we get in the GPU department from them. Also the 590 cost me £170.
Well that's outstanding value and the 590 is a brilliant card at that price/resolution! Very wise Sir.

And...what the hell happened to my thread? You crazy lot!

Get your tinfoil hat on pal.

I'm a bit ocz (or was for many years) I used to bench my old rig just for that extra point all the time.

since wife and kids I've had to chill the upgo out. But if I could see a upgrade that would really make a difference, I would do it any way.

@Jacky60 just wondering going off your sig. Why are you running your ram at 3000? Nice timings I know but can you not do 3200 with nearly the same ?

I've not tried lowering my timings but I have a 3200mhz kit with cl16. Been think about doing what you have and getting the timing really low but at 3200mhz

I'll have a go, I'm on an Asrock X99X Killer 3.1 and running 125 BCLK and thanks for the heads up for some reason I had it in my head 3000 was all it would go to but having looked again at Asrock website I should be able to go 3200 as you say. Cheers:)

Great I got it to boot C15 @3200 just got some stability testing to do as I'm at 4560 15,15,15,35 2T then try and tighten timings. Thanks again!

No worries. The better timing might be better tho? Probably won't make to much different tho.

Apparently x99 can go higher but it's not good for the board.

ive got my 5820k running 3200, 14,14,14,36 b-die, at 1.45 volts... I was going to go for 34 then maybe get the others down too. That’s at 2T.

my chip does 4.4 at 1.28v. I’ve tried up to 1.36 volts and it won’t do 4.5

any tips?

I'm no pro but some use 125blck and then a different multi. That's what jacky60 is doing.

I read a guide a while ago and apparently that's the way to go with some chips.

I think I'll get some nice ram and then lower the timings. But I'm thinking hold out till ddr5 now.

125 bclk means I top out at 3000mhz though which I’ve tried and still no dice.

I don’t have the OC socket either so stuck on 3.5 cache

I can get to boot and run for a while 4560/3200/4125 cache 15/15/15/35 but it's not stable at faster timings (14/14/14/34)and not sure it's stable at that tbh. Several crashes playing World of warships at 14/14/14/34 for example which is barely stressing the system at all. 3000 with tighter timings seems sweet spot and CPU at 4.5/4.125 cache 13,13,13,34 2T with 125 BCLK. I'll have another fiddle tomorrow but my bios won't allow 4.5/4.125/3200 which is annoying. I'm on 1.375 vcore which I know is a lot (Corsair H110i with Noctua fans). Temps are fine when gaming but it cooks if I run CPU stress tests with all cores at 4.5. Only putting 1.40V through Ram so might try and up that to 1.45 and see how it responds. I need 125 bclk and also read that was the way to go on ROG X99 guide a while back. Thanks for the feedback/tips!

Think that was the guide I read. I have a Asus deluxe. Can't even remember my settings. Not messed about for ages now. I've managed to keep my OCD at Bay for a while now :D

Yeah I totally get that, I've returned it to 3000 as otherwise I'll spend two days chasing my tail. Might have another go next week when I can rekindle some enthusiasm.

3200 13,13,13,36 at 1.45v. gonna try to get that 36 down to 34. then go for 12s

Edit - got 13,13,13,34 at 1.46 volts. I went for cas 12 and only had 1 stick recognised!!!

I think that might be it for my IMC. I’d still really like to get 4.5 on the core though...

Okay, you are making me want get some 3200ish RAM to replace my 2400 stuff (and for use in a potential future Zen3 build) :p

that’s what I’m going to do with mine! 1/2 of this is finding out what it’ll do for then. What Vcore are you on for 4.5 btw?

My vcore is pretty high @ 1.325v but under a custom loop. Did you notice any difference on your X99 system with faster RAM?
