Frozen Synapse

I'm loving the game so far, However is anyone else finding it brutally difficult to begin with? I'm not complaining as I love hard games but do you just end up picking it up after a few hours?

Can't wait to try some MP!

Just been gifted a free copy of this

In the game it says "Activate Free Key"

Do I really have a free key to give to my mate, dont want to get his hopes up.

Forgive me I haven't actually played the game, but from the few videos I've seen it does look interesting, but what is the content like?

I mean so far I've only seen Assault Rifle/Shotgun/Rocket guys, and only 4 guys max per side.

Are there games where you can have all sorts? Like breaching guys to blow through cover? sub machine gun guys? grenades?

Also can you get 10? 20 guys per side on larger maps?

Ive on played 5-7 single player missions so far, but someone in here has mentioned grenadiers and some of the SP missions I've had as little as 2 people and as many as 5 + 2/3 AI friends.

EDIT: Anyone know if your mission vids are saved anywhere?

Max I can make is a 8v8 game. Screen shot shows the classes.

I did the tutorial and then found that I was struggling on the first level. But actually it isn't as hard as you think. You just need to step back and think about the tricks in the tutorial. One thing that is especially important is that the Shotgun guys tend to take initiative (shoot first) but only have a short range.

After that I found it pretty easy for the first dozen or so missions.

Anyone else wanna go half on it? It's still on buy one get one free.

You buy and i'll transfer the dosh over! (i'm overseas anyway*)

* not nigeria.

I already have the game (it is great), but I wanted to say that I think that is the default offer anyway, I believe it will be two copies per purchase for a while.

If anyone fancies a game on UK1, my ID is Nieldo :)

This game is taking up all my gaming time at the moment. It's superb. There's one thing that's bugging me though - not always understanding why who killed who. I get the basics - cover, stillness, aiming etc, but sometimes encounters don't seem to follow those rules. For example, my mate had a guy standing still behind the cover of a box looking at a window. I send a guy to edge along and aim out the window in his direction. As I understand it the guy behind the box should have got the kill as he was still - instead my guy moves out and pops him quickly in the head. There have been a bunch of other occasions when something like this happens

I'm guessing your guy was using a shotgun? They get a bonus to firing time and will usually win when they are in range. Even if their enemy is in light cover and stood still the shotgunners can win, I've got a nice video showing this currently uploading. In the first turn I accidentally suicided my rocket man after forgetting to reset his orders when I had finished simulating a rocket hit, I managed to make an awesome come back with a great finish, found a way to get past his defences and sent a shotgunner in to clean them out.

Nice!

How did you manage to get your shotgunner over there without being seen! Was that a dark extermination game?

Nice vid. Cheers for the suggestion too, but in this case they were both machine gunners. I've made a vid that i'll try and upload later as, despite watching it over and over, I can't work out why I got the kill. There have been a few other odd encounters - two moving machine gunners meeting in the open, both moving, neither having cover and spotting each other at the same time (which according to the Frozen Synapse forums should result in a random victor), and the same one always winning regardless of making slight changes to the path they take and previewing multiple times.

So everyone who gets gifted this game can gift a copy to a friend?

And then they can gift it to someone else etc.

Where do they make their money?

No everyone who buys the game gets two copies and then they can gift it.

The person who receives the gifted game does not get another copy to then gift.

Is that so?

I've been gifted a copy, and theres a option in the game to "Activate Free Key".

I clicked it then it asked me to fill out my friends username, email and so on.

I havent actually filled it yet so it might come back and say "Oops error" but it looks like I can gift it.

It was dark extermination yeah, my MG at the bottom could see both windows so I knew that his shotgunner was not at the bottom window, I ducked my MG and waited for about 1 second with my shotgunner before running across, this reset the enemy MGs aim time. His MG doesnt actually have that much sight over the area, so my shotgunner only appeared for a short time but he was seen, and at the very end of the turn (so he didn't have time to react) I got him to pop up at the window just enough to kill the MG but not reveal himself to the rest of the room. I got lucky in that nobody popped up at the second bottom window and his shotty didnt turn the corner at the top, this was probably because he wasn't expecting a rush like that.. I assumed that his shotgunner was inside the room covering the door, thats why you see both my guys at the end move to cover the room at the same time.
