FTL is currently in Alpha, and is planned for a PC, Mac and Linux release in mid-2012.

FTL is a spaceship simulation with rogue-like elements.
You manage the Kestrel and its crew as you explore the galaxy. Strategic, real-time combat involves managing power between essential systems and choosing which enemy systems to target. Meanwhile, you control your crew to keep the ship functioning and fight off intruders. The combat is difficult but, being a “roguelike-like” game, frequent permadeath is at the core of the experience.

While exploring the galaxy you will encounter a variety of situations requiring decision making that can result in many outcomes. Since all events are randomly generated, each play-through will be significantly different.

Kickstarter page up for it now! Aiming for $10k and they're are pretty much there already. Prices are:
$10 for a full, DRM free copy on Windows, Mac and Linux on release
$25 Gets you the game plus closed beta access.

There is also a demo of the game available, but only through Onlive :(

They have reached over 10k after a day, very impressive. Quite annoying the demo is onlive only but this is a game i really want to play :D

Just played the demo and its fantastic! Definitely going to have to back this for the closed beta!

Had a play with this last night and it was very enjoyable, despite being bum raped more times than not!

Is the mouse extremely twitchy for anyone else? I can't find an option in the onlive client or in the demo itself to change the sensitivity :(

Was really sluggish for me, although I just blame OnLive as its happened to me before on it.

Loved the game though, time to throw some money at it.

I'm pretty sure it's input lag from your internet connection. Your mouse moves have to go to the server, be interpreted and then sent back to your screen.

It was the reverse, the sensitivity in the game is far higher than my desktop sensitivity, lag would surely be causing slower sluggish movements as witnessed by wizzy.

Good fun game though, played through it a few times. I know you're not supposed to be able to beat the ship at the end, but damn I'm going to try! Ended up with a ship that had two of those 3 shot guns on it, and three layers of shields. Unfortunately they shot me with a missile which blew up my oxygen room and set fire to it, so I was too busy micromanaging my ship and died :(

I had an excellent death at a sun, the flares were creating fires all over my ship along with being pounded by an enemy, one of his shots took out the door controls so that a good portion of my ship had no o2, most of the crew died of asphyxia trying to repair the o2 controls. Totally brutal..think im addicted to this demo.
