Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

We need some fuel depot blockades and governments with some balls. Why is no one talking about record profits for companies like Shell, the money they are earning is just ridiculous and can’t be a coincidence.
Windfall tax is already happening. Think gas prices are what have really made them the big profits though rather than oil.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I don’t care where they are ripping us off and on which branch of their revenue stream, they are profiteering and it needs to stop.

thats because they are screwing us .. oil an't that high so why are petrol prices going up ??
Where are you getting that information?
oilprice.com says otherwise:

Are we looking at different things? That's brent crude, I think.

You know they don't set the prices, it's all decided on the open market and we are competing with massive demand from China and others. Yes they are making massive profits, yes a windfall tax has been put in motion.

lol - complain to the saudis , who are selling it to the chinese (or the golfers who are supporting that) , or ask boris why Iran didn't open the taps.

e: I suppose we could increase the price of the munitions we sell saudis .. a manufacturing surcharge.

I don’t care. Their profit margin has increased from stupid levels to ridiculous. Tax them the level of increase and give the proceeds to us in rebates. They already make way too much money.

Rumours are that is exactly what they are going to do to give Boris a boost in support. A temporary removal of VAT on fuel so around 35p per litre off the price.

Sadly that will only bring it back down to £1.65 per litre and it wasnt that long ago we were all complaining about that!

Wasn't so many years ago when it hit £1 a litre and people were aghast about that! I remember when a local filling station hit that and it was reported on the Jeremy Vine show!

People have largely been pacified now. Wealth is being transferred from poor to rich at ever increasing levels. The truth is you can’t do anything to stop it.

Something major will have to be done, the economy will implode at this rate. Relieved I didn't buy the Jaag XKR now.

I don’t have to pay for fuel my boss does, so my boss has given us all a pay rise to help with inflation because he’s a stand up guy. So what he’s been doing is working out how much extra fuel is costing us, how much pay rises is costing us ect then working out how much more we have to charge our customers to cover it. I imagine that is what everyone else is doing. The knock on effect is huge.

This. I put a detailed proposal together listing all the increased costs since the beginning of the year to a client, line by line which then totalled an increase in 14.8% which he accepted. Inflation is soon going to hit 15% in this country.

I too am amazed at how fast prices are going up. I'm certain that on Monday I drove past the local Tesco where standard petrol was £1.699 for it to be £1.789 the next day. Other stations are well above £1.80.

Crazy times when a tank is over £100.
It's crazy. Last Friday I paid 168.9 for unleaded at my local Tesco. Passed by today and had to do a double take when I saw 184.9.

Just received an email from our fuel supplier at work saying they are expecting diesel to be 10p per litre more from the 12th June so suggest everybody fills up this week while its "cheap".

Doubt you will be able find many patrol stations sub £2 next week.

I just got the same email, though I just checked our last bill dated 31st and it was at 1.76 then

All those talking about them cutting tax on the fuel to reduce the cost...remember when the government cut the duty? Yeah...that wasn't passed on to the public. The retailers just took that as profit.

Also remember that the oil market and petrol/diesel market is done in USD.

Our currency has tanked against the USD recently (around $1.20 to the £) so its a double hit of oil increase globally and then UK buying it at a weaker exchange rate than, say, 6 months ago.
