Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

blame the petrol stations for letting people fill up their boots illegally.

people claiming they can't get in to work because of no fuel should be sacked :p get a buses, trains and taxis like other people have too.

lol @ the people on twitface saying they can't get to work because they have no fuel, what do they think people who don't own cars do, spend hours travelling on public transport.
A very simplistic view there. People work where they can get to reasonably. If you live in a rural location that means you can get a job anywhere you like... if you can drive your car. If you rely on public transport then you better hope the local shop has some part time hours going.

Taxi drivers are just as impacted as everyone else (the minority of full EV taxi's aside) and the cost is ridiculous if you get them beyond the reach of teh city because they know they've probably got an empty trip back to pick up their next fare.

Are you serious?

So what if they need to carry a load of stuff, in the chucking down rain/dark?
1-2 miles is like 15-25minutes even if your an average slow walker

how lazy are you? buy a backback/laptop bag

a bit of rain never hurt anyone, get some water proof clothes, I bet the rain wouldn't stop you going out on a Friday

you don't have a back up plan to get to work if your car breaks down? you just expect the week off until it gets fixed?

in the old days you think people just sat at home waiting for the sun before going to work? lifes so easy and people still look for excuses to not turn up at work
your basically saying your not coming in today because it's not convenient, and you probably won't be at work until your local petrol station is refilled.

sounds like you don't want the job anyway, your fired

I cycle to work, and ride about 8,000 miles a year.....so not lazy at all thanks for asking.

And 15 min/mile is not an average slow walking pace. Most people would take well over 30 mins to walk 2 miles.

weird cos google says the average is 3-4 mph

most people around here walk about 5-6 (usually pop strava on my phone when I go for walks)

I can't understand why some people run cars on the fumes - Why don't they fill up to half a tank when ever it gets low. - just keep between quarter and half.

I remember the last fuel crisis in 70's and from then I always have a full tank - Some say it lowers your mpg rate (weight) but I don't care - must be same as those who run on fumes saying they get more mpg. So I run three quarters to full all the time. So I don't get caught out like now.
Each to their own.:)

Because all jobs involve someone travelling somewhere and being there 8 hours then returning home.

How about, lazy enough to be sitting at home on a Monday morning, typing into a discussion forum and not even bothering about capitals or grammar.

They don't - but going from 1/3 full to in the red can happen over a weekend quite easily.

I take it you joined the queues and filled up your 3/4 full tank on Friday.

Why would you want to do that? Just means more trips to the pumps.

I fill up and run until the light comes on, in normal times this is the most logical and least time intensive method.

maybe some people run on a very tight budget and cant afford to keep the tank filled up.

Just checked my local bus service. Next bus that leaves me locally is at 12:40 so almost 40 minutes time, and takes 2.5 hours to get to where I work, only 20 miles away. Oh and another 10-15 minutes walk at the other end, all up hill so probably 15.

I dont think I could get a bus early enough to make it to work on time, would be close. Problem is that early morning bus takes longer to get to where I would need to change as it covers more villages so its closer to 3 hours. Great.

If I left work on time I would have 30 minutes to do the return leg to get a 2.45 hour journey home. Not that I ever leave "on time" anyway.

Fuel crisis in 2000 broke me of that habit, as a student in the late 90s I was typically putting £6 or £12 in at a time (to get the tiger token!) to ensure I still had some money for food and beer. Fuel crisis hit and I got lucky with nearly a full tank. Even with a 30 mile round trip commute to work , I was still driving in when colleagues were forced onto the train after a few days because they got caught short.

Post 2000, I tend to brim it, won't usually get caught with less than half a tank, unless it's a long journey. Last filled up about 10 days ago. 120 miles driven. 380 still in the tank.

Fair few people on the motorway bimbling along at 55-60mph yesterday though.
