One of my laptop's HDD has started to develop bad sectors, it failed Fujitsu's own tool for testing the disk.

Fujitsu give a 3 year warranty and the drive was manufactured 28-11-2007 so is under warranty.

I just called them to arrange RMA and they said I need a receipt to do so.
I don't have a receipt for the drive.

Is this normal practice? By law am I required to produce a bill of sell despite date of manufacture being on the HDD itself?

Do you have knowledge of a local pc type place thats gone bust in the past few years? if so just fake an invoice from them with the company details and look up the company number from the companies house website.

I had to do the same one when i was in a similar situation. The item was in warranty but id lost the reciept, so im damned if im losing out just because they wont honour their own date of manufacturer marks on the product.
