Fuming!

It has annoyed me, with the fact that i spent a good 2 hours pouring my soul into making them look nice and new.

and now they look like crap only 2 days later :/

You are dealing with scum, report it to the police and take a lesson from it. Business is tough, you have to take the rough with the smooth and you are working in a field that will be full of dodgy people and kit.

Call 101 and report, as at the very least you have some potentially stolen property they'll want, which could be traced back to specific offences. His description and that of his car might assist them even if he doesn't make contact with you again.

If he does turn up, call 999.

In future it might be worth getting a uv pen and marking the phones in a couple of places inside and out maybe. Take photos (with uv light on so you can see the marks in the photos) of the phones as well and an serial numbers you can find. This way you could have hopefully proved instantly he was pulling a fast one.

Given how many repairs you say you do it would pay well to protect yourself against people like this. Even though from what you have said he sounds like the try of retard that just wants to pull a fast one.

This.

On a slightly unrelated note - have you had any quality issues with iPhone 4/4S LCD / Touch units recently?

Well yes and no.

A few had failed lcd's within a couple weeks but as i buy them from a local major supply chain i can simply walk over with faulty unit and get a new one.

I pay a bit more for the parts this way but i know i have a 12 month warranty on the screens.

How did he know where you lived? Do you operate from your home? Do you not take customer details for repairs carried out?

Just report it to the police and tell them everything you wrote and give a description of the guy and whilst there charge him for assault.

Next time, use a boxing stance :D

Get the police and if you see him again get his car details (reg no, make & model). If anyone on your street saw the incident, let the police know there are witnesses.

Either these 'premium' items are highly unreliable or the people who use them are morons that break things...Hmmmmmmm... Probably a bit of both methinks.

Or someone's slightly exaggerating - 3000, £15 profit a time, £45,000. Alternatively I'm in the wrong business. I'm not doubting the OP to be fair though.

That said, as others have said. Phone the police, if he's a real idiot he might even try and beat you to it.

Hey now.. I didnt say it was 3000 iPhone 4 screens haha.

I do Other repairs such as buttons and the like which have a much lower repair cost.

Also that number covers from when iPhones first came out :)

Update:
Called the police, they said they will come over on monday to collect the phones and take a statement.

They said that if he comes back and is at all violent then i need to call the police

Was about to clarify the approach that would be taken by the Police, but have just read your last response . Be confident you are in the right and leave the police to handle this .

Good luck

I'm very annoyed!

I do phone repairs to get money to help pay for uni whilst i'm there.. I try to charge less than most as i feel sorry for people who need a repair and are on a tight budget.

So for example i charge £40 for a iPhone 4 / 4S and make £15 profit for the time i spend doing the repair...

I had a chap come to me 2 days ago and have 3 iPhone 4's repaired, all broken screens so not a problem.

I did my usual checks and asked him some questions about if they powered on ok before the glass was broken, how the screens were broken and if any water was involved blah blah...

He said they were all just dropped from a small height.. so i was like ok no problem i will change the screens.

I noticed that on 1 of them the screen that was broken made no effort to light up, (90% of the time they will still light up even if LCD is cracked)..

So i made this clear to him that a new screen may not fix that one but will be charged at £40 still and i would fix the issue if found that's causing it not to work... he agreed as long as it was below £60 for the total repair on that phone.

So i go ahead and fix the phones... and find that the dead phones chassis was bent, so i replaced that as well and put a new dock connector and battery in and it came back to life, unfortunately it would get no signal.

None had Sim cards so i couldn't test signal strength anyway.

He comes to collect all 3, pays me the money owed and drives off happy.

Now we come to today....

he comes over to my home, without prior warning and throws the phone at me when i open the door, this said phone bounces off me and smashes on the floor... Now it needs a new screen...

He shouts so my entire street could hear that I'm a scam artist and i rip people off, that his phones are all now barred and don't work ( ALL THREE)...!

I tried to calm him down and reason with him but he was having none of it, and trying to push past me into my home.. Now I'm not a small lad, I'm 6ft1 and am around 15stone.. he could not budge me.

I asked him to hand me the phones so i could have a look, so i have 2 that look Ok and one smashed (cus he threw it at me).

I have a quick look and found that the new mid-frame was gone and the screens were not held on correctly, and came to the conclusion that he simply took my new screens, put them on barred dead phones and then expected me to simply pay him for 3 new iPhone's!

I told him to come back tomorrow and i will see if i can fix them.. But i wont be paying from my own pocket and then i shut my door and locked my house up.

he carried on shouting calling me a scammer and a robbing moron until he drove off 15 mins later.

Now then, I have 3 phones, i have done IMEI number checks and all have come back as reported lost / stolen...

What do i do?

I'm not going to fix these as i cant change the IMEI.. and i refuse to spend money again when he has simply tried to rip me off.

This is he first time something like this have happened to me, i have done over 3000 iPhone repairs since i started.

Please help... i need advice :(

Call the police, I would'nt go into too much detail on how many phones you do if you are not paying tax ;).

for future reference i would always ask for contact details/postage so that you don't have to face your customers.

Obviously always record imei numbers before and after fixing so that if this was to happen again you have reference to which phones you have fixed.

Also the idea of a uv mark on the phone/screen are worth doing as this also is a way of keeping an eye on your screen repairs.

With regard to police and this chap collecting just tell him the phones have been classed as stollen and are with the police. if he needs to collect them because they are legitimately his then to collect from local station.

I bet you he doesn't collect them :p
