funny truth

Racist?

I think I might have meant asylum seekers actually rather than refugees.

I'm too sleep deprived currently.

That was meant for the people that come along later calling me a racist because I have spoken out about our soft policy. ;)

But my point still stands with asylum seekers, why do they come here and not any of the other countries? It's because we are such a soft touch and so easy to enter.

We're seen as a good place to be - whether we're a 'soft touch' or not.

It's an English speaking nation, the closest one to most of the troubled countries. English having become the international language now, this is desirable.
We're fairly affluent. Only the most unlucky ends up with severe lack of anything - our 'poverty line' is pretty high.
Despite appearances (and the trash-talk of a few loud racists and nimbies), we are in general a very tolerant, welcoming nation (and long may that continue, IMO).

Immigration has long been set aside by Labour as it really isn't that big a problem. Sadly the perception of people is often governed by media, their fear of 'different' and that their mate Bob can't get work on a building site any more (maybe Bob is much lazier than the incoming Polish workers) - so now we're nearing election time, it's being looked at more carefully...

And what about the mass exodus of poles as they realise this country isn't all they expected it to be? I think that says a lot about the state of our 'wonderful' country.

And what about the mass exodus of poles as they realise this country isn't all they expected it to be?

The vast majority of polish workers here are migrant workers looking for short-term employment to help kick-start a better life back in Poland. A lot of poles have left this year as there was a scarcity of work here.

Some do leave as this country is not what they expected - they them did not expect to be treated as second class citizens because they have an accent.

It's the double standards that are implied in the OP that I hate. They won't stand for illegals in their country but we tolerate it. It's like a when muslim country wouldn't let English immigrants build an English church but we allow it and much much more.

Quite.

There was this big thing, think it was called a downturn, then a recession, then a crash, remember? You'd want to go be jobless at home instead of abroad, too.

TBH I'm very proud of this country and the people in it - I just have to ignore the loudmouth racist, fearful and angry "I KNOW MY RIGHTS!" minority.

It's beautiful here, we still have space (have you ever visited any of the moors, nomanslands and national parks?), we ourselves choose to crowd together in cities.

If you think our country is so rubbish, go elsewhere.

How sad when we begin to see tolerance as a bad thing :(

I'm quite happy to see mosques, churches and synagogues co-existing. Who am I, as an on-the-fence agnostic to tell people which religion is the right one?

Have you personally felt walked over by someone who originated in another country? Give me an example. Use me if you like, I was born and raised in Sweden. I'm sorry if that's offensive to you.

Let Me See If I Understand This . . . .............

You obviously don't.

However, if you cross the UK border illegally, you get a job, a driver's licence, a social security card, welfare benefits, food stamps, credit cards, subsidized rent or a loan to buy a new house, free education, free health care, and you can VOTE.

This is false. You get chucked into one of the UK's 11 illegal immigrant detention centres, where you stand a reasonably good chance of dying or committing suicide while waiting to hear if your appeal was successful.

I am not telling anyone who or what to worship. What I am against is people coming to this country and enforcing there views on us. It isn't all of them, you misunderstood me if that is what you think. Getting told I am going to hell because I don't believe in Allah or whoever by someone from another country who is here illigally rubs me the wrong way.

Who is enforcing their views on you though? I think your going alittle far with that. Who cares what they tell you what *might* happen, if you don't believe it then what des it matter?

I personally think religion is the biggest hoax in the history of man kind and that when you die, that's it. If people want to believe different that is their choice if it helps them cope better and think a higher power is controlling things.

1) Have you actually had someone tell you that you were going to hell, but specifically not the Christian version of hell?
2) If so, did you even know which religion it was, or indeed where they came from? Or did they just have a funny accent? They may have been Britain-born!
3) If they were indeed not from the UK, how do you know they were illegally here?
3) How are they different from the 'native' super-Christian crazies preaching at you on street corners?

Can't you just write that one person off as a crazy fool who's just a bit rubbish at evangelising their religion and spreading the word?

PS. there are PLENTY of British-born legal residents who REALLY rub me up the wrong way. They might even have lineage dating back to the first wave of inhabitants on this island. Why should I consider someone originally from abroad to have less right to be here because they're a bit annoying?

PPS. I am lucky in that while I am an immigrant, my Mother is English so I have a British passport, I have the right accent and I'm white. I'm no different really (in fact, maybe I'm /less/ British) than a lot of people who really get it in the neck from ignorant fools.

You get that from english people too bro. Quite often I see a bloke in town shouting "the end is nigh" or "repent now" with a load of leaflets or some laminated bit of card saying "tear up this ticket to heaven if you don't need it"

It's got nothing to do with immigrants, with any religion it'll happen. You always get plenty of nutters, understandable as they're never 100% tied into reality.

maybe............

There are 2 sides to the illigal immigrant issue, and on those two sides are the extremes :

One side that wants all illegals out and we should have a wall surrounding the country which is manned by sentry guns 24/7. The other side wants to welcome everyone with open arms and give them the keys to their owns houses. Remember, these are the extremes, just because you lean one way of the other doesn't mean you believe my descriptions

I personally feel in the middle somewhat............
