Went from a 7870 to a Fury X back in october and I couldn't be happier!

My PC's last me, in general, 3-4 years and this duration will only get larger as Intel's CPU updates get more and more incremental.
The only thing I would probably upgrade in the next 4-5 years will be the SSD's and maybe the Fury if we see another leap in performance like the one I got from that upgrade.

Would I buy one now? Probably not, it's just getting a bit too close to the release of new architectures.

Looks like the FuryX/recent AMD cards generally will have strong DX12 performance, so should last you a good while man!!

I bought mine about 6 weeks after launch (earliest I could actually get my hands on one :D).

I admit there was a lot of fretting about whether I'd finally get it, get it installed and discover that it whined so bad that I couldn't stand it, but I got lucky and it's super quiet.

I upgraded from a 290X Tri-X @1080p and went to 1440p Freesync at the same time.

The 4GB ceiling has hit me once so far - ROTR - Very High textures are a no go. However at least for me, at 1440p the visual difference between high and very high is pretty difficult to discern, so no biggie I suppose.

All in all I'm very happy with it, it's a beast at 1440p, freesync is awesome. No regrets here :)

Considering I have a Freesync monitor yes I would. If Nvidia weren't so anal about restricting their adaptive sync tech to Gsync only (and charging through the nose for it) I'd have had a 980ti as they're clearly superior cards, but as they are they've lost a sale there.

If everyone were as smart as Blackjack - they would be. Luckily for them, there's plenty of... I won't say dumb people (but there is those as well), but people who are too.. dunno how to describe it... lazy to care?

Amen.

With DP1.3, Nvidia going to ignore and not implement on their drivers Freesync.
However the hardware for the tech to work, going to be there on the port, because they have to use the rest of the technologies to support DP1.3

That says it all. However it will be funny to see hacked drivers supporting Freesync.
Which btw is supported with the next gen of Intel IGPs.

^^

+1

Regarding that, an article I linked elsewhere summed up my feelings about this whole free/g sync business:

https://hbr.org/2014/07/ceos-get-to-know-your-rivals/

Look for weaknesses that present opportunities. “It’s important to understand your rival’s weak spots and strategy,” says Will Ethridge, Pearson Education’s former CEO. “I knew one rival whose CEO was focused on driving profitability and bringing up margins. I knew that meant he would be relatively focused on short-term results while mostly ignoring product development. I also realized he would go after our top sales people to meet those short-term sales goals. So we worked extra hard to protect our key sales people. At the same time, we continued to invest in long-term product development and overseas markets, knowing it was unlikely he could follow us in the short term.”

It is as fast or close to the 980 Ti.

When it came out, it was placed around the 980s performance on here, so id be very surprised if AMD have managed to lever that much more performance out of it in a couple of drivers, to now have it matching/beating the Ti/TX, as Nvidia couldn't boost their 980 with that much more performance through a couple of drivers, they had to release 2 more cards. :p

Looking forward to cranking up GTA 5 and installing some of those ENB's in Skyrim.

Which drivers should I be looking to download?

Actually they did:

At 1440P they have caught up to the 980 Ti:

At 4K they have surpassed the 980 Ti:

No they have not lol.

Overclock a 980 Ti and a Fury X, the AMD card gets beat by a healthy margin at any resolution.

The Fury X is a very good card and excellent bang for buck but it is not as quick as a GTX 980 Ti.

I know people who actually work for AMD who don't make some of the silly claims you do.

Why must everything be about overclocking to the max. The cards, out the box, perform just as good as a 980ti. I don't get why your fighting him on that.

Its a touchy subject,, AIB ti's clock higher out of the box . Should those be discounted simply because you cant buy a non reference furyx?

While it doesnt seem entirely fair to count a max o/c gpu vs a stock one its also not fair to discount a gpu that comes with out of the box higher clocks.

Because reference GTX 980 Ti's are very underclocked compared to the Fury X.

FuryXGuy is welcome to put an out of the box Fury X up against one of my out of the box GTX 980 Ti's

These cards are very fast out of the box and overclock like beasts on air without voltage control.

Some people would say that the above comparison is unfair but the point is it is an air cooled card up against a water cooled card.

I am a big fan of the Fury X (I do own 4 of them) but I see them for what they are not what I want them to be.

As to gaming I prefer to use a single TitanX due the 12gb frame buffer as even a Kingpin has limitations and is what it is.
