lol that price is stupid. Why do people like AMD charge so much when they cost $40 to make?
Because they can and people pay it, also its not just the cost to manufacture but also other things like R&D

maybe, but if they were to lower their prices, they would undercut Intel, get most of, if not all of the market, and would make money due to the sheer bulk of sales.

It also costs far, far more than $40 to make

The fabrication plant costs millions and millions to build. The vast majority of wafers don't pass quality tests so are either dumped or sold as cheaper versions

It costs a fair amount to make a CPU, particuarly a high end dual core chip like that

Nice, but.

my X2 3800 does them speeds (minus the extra cache of course) on 1.45v and cost a hell of a lot less.

Outrageously over priced, who in thier right mind would. !! :D

i could think of a lot of things id rather do with the money.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX60 (Socket 939) - Retail (ADAFX60DAA6CDBOX) (CP-146-AM)
Frustrated by staring at the hourglass icon as soon as you try to work on more than three programs at once, especially when you’re working with digital media?

get a P4.

PS - thats damn expensive to get 3 programs working at once :p

saw the price £563 and thought thats not a lot then relised that was for the 4800+
£822 thats a hair short of the price my new HDTV is gonna cost me.
FX60 = willy wavers wet dream tbh. (no offence to people who get one but its just wayyyyyy too much money to justify for me on a processor)

Well over priced IMO.. AMD used to pride themselves on producing cheaper processor than any of it's competitors. Their increase of popularity has obvouosly gone to their heads.

I guess it's paying for the R&D more than anything.
