G1 970 to 290X lightning :)

Yeah wouldnt buy the lightning at all, much rather follow your example and have two gimped 970's in sli. Throw in the 512mb of super cache and the lightning is not just outmatched its completely destroyed.

Buuutt.. We got our Lightening cards with 4 games at £259.. I'm not complaining if it beats on numbers, my eyes wouldn't be able to see the difference anyway. They both play games exactly as they should.. So who cares?

If the 970 was at the price of my 290x at that deal i would have gone for it.

:D Iwas joking savage! The lightning and the 970 are both great cards in their own right. Personally couldnt live with knowing i had gimped card but thats just my opinion.

Also I ordered a 290x lightning on saturday. Sent my PCS+290 back, due to a rattling fan on idle. So looks like i will be joining you :D

It wasn't a dig at you in that sense, more of a rant to myself haha.

Ahh, welcome aboard, It's a beast, and weighs an absolute tonne.

With the AMD cards running a little hotter i just think that's more of an excuse for me to upgrade to water cooling :D I don't see any problems with that!

Water cooling is meant to turn them into beasts

Cant wait to find out what these lightnings are like, what bios do you have enabled on your's standard or ln2 for overclocking?

Right, lets figure this LN2 thing out :P

Haha, you'll win, you have a decent understanding, I don't. As you can tell!

I have this fancy Overclocking card that i have no idea how to use, im ashamed :(

EDIT:

I just got the box out and it comes with another heatsink for LN2.. Now I'm scared haha

Preatty sure thats for either use with water or if you want to change something phisically on the card. running ln2 bios on air is fine, infact your stock clocks will drop to a 1000hz berfore overclocking. I will run ln2 mode all the time since it puts the pcb into full power phase mode.

Im still a novice to! So dont put yourself down, you will pick it up as you go along im sure :D

Remember when you want to switch bios, turn the computer off and unplug. Then switch bios switch and plug back in.

Yeah i've just unplugged it and it's sitting there open, i'm scared ahah..

Shall i plug in the extra power cable as well? It has space for more power cables, it had a sticker saying 'extreme OC only'.

Yeah plug it in, it should also help to split the power to the card better. After you have plugged it in your lightining sign will glow as well :)

Ah cool, i know the 3rd 6 pin is not required but every little helps!

Some tech reviews noticed that in ln2 mode they were able to get more out of the card which is what you would expect.

It's on, and working. Had to re-install the drivers and i though't i'd install the MSI stuff as well. So just doing that now and then will see where i'm at!
