isn't that going to change though?
a bit like the spare tyre thing.
no fail to have no tyre, fail to have a tyre thats illegal.

Not sure had not heard of that, I guess they are possibly trying to get to the stage where if it is not fitted, it can't fail, but if it is fitted it must be in working order, which I suppose makes sense really.

it's something along the lines of " if it's fitted then it is tested and can possibly fail, however if 'it' was not fitted at the factory then it will not be tested."

you've really surprised me by saying airbags aren't compulsory though.

Failing on an illegal spare tyre is a myth, at least in this day and age. It's not part of the MOT test.

Wheels and tyres - condition, security, tyre size and type, and tread depth. Spare tyres are not tested

Loads of cds
G meter
Boost Guage
TomTom Mobile 5 + bluetooth gps reciever
Jump leads!

Really out of those I only need the cds, boost guage and occasionally the jump leads. TomTom lives in the car on an old nokia 6600 and comes in useful if i'm lost at 4am in the middle of no-where (which does tend to happen every so often).

Oh and a phone charger for the nokia.

I've been given a fairly new laptop though so it'll either go on the MM or i'll try and find out a little more about making myself a carputer (always wanted one for dvd/tv/mp3 on the motorway etc so odds on i'll make it happen).

Yeah odd one that not many people realise that you do not need an airbag by law in a car.
Seat belts, yes, child seat/ booster cushion for under 12's, yes (now anyway), airbags and pre-tensioners, no.

The legislation for crash tests ECE REG17, Euro Ncap, FMVSS 208, etc, have fairly tight tolerances on allowable HIC (Head Injury Criteria), chest compression, and other mesurable levels.
All manufacturers, also have their own in house allowances/guidelines, while these are not satutory, they are of a much higher level than that the statutory regulations.

With the Crash Test engineers having to try and work with the designers of the cars to get their vehicles to pass all these levels of guidelines/regulations, while keeping everything within the design remit of the vehicle and packaging everything within tha allowed areas, while also keeping the aesthetics looking right for the intended market, it is often much easier to fit airbags/pre-tensioners everywhere, rather than spend an awful lot more time, money, and energy, on designing a safe car without these gadgets.

In some instances, Elise is a case in point, there is physically no room to fit airbags and still keep the aesthetics of the vehicle in check, so they don't they just work harder at getiing everything else right so an airbag is not really needed, the pre-tensioner in an Elise is one of the best we have ever tested, it needs to be as there is no airbag as backup, the only thing stopping the driver from piling into the steering wheel and column, is the belt and pre-tensioner, so they are both of much higher quality, than found in other vehicles.

surprised at that too as it used to be....or maybe it's one of those urban legends that most people (including myself) never bothered to check.

What do you do when you park somewhere? Does it fold up and hide or do you have to leave it on view?

I should imagine something like that would be a thief-magnet :/

Screen manually pushes into a single din slot, kinda just looks like a clock when closed :)

i have exactly zip :D

the car is simply for driving. do have an ok-ish headunit, if that counts. the only changes have been 'performance' orientated

Yea but then how would I open the window from the office to cool the car down before I get in on a hot day :p

You have to open the window?

Pfft.

My M3 has a timer function of which cools down the car for you at a set time each day. ;)
