over 90 have type one thats cold sores (but you can get it downstairs)
about 50 percent have type two thats the genital type
I, unfortunately, dont smah pasty that often so have never got myself checked
you really should. mainly cause while certain things are asymptomatic for you you could utterly destroy a woman's life.

I go once a year, been surprised a couple of times, but that's the nature of the game I guess.
nothing two tablets and a glass of water didn't solve. But as you say it's very definitely better to be safe than sorry, even if it is comical being surrounded by teenagers at the clinic

It makes sense to have yourself checked when required (beginning/end of relationships etc) whether you've practiced safe sex or not (condoms will not protect you against everything).
The problem in this country is so many people still have this stigma attached to going to get checked. Some people seem to make the assumption that you either have something or are dirty or else why would go you. Of course it's just as likely you are someone who is responsible and cares about their health. You don't have to be someone who sleeps around without practicing safe sex to get something.
It's a bit undignified, but as a female and having to go for a smear test every 3 years that part has never bothered me. In fact I'm not sure why they don't offer you the chance to get tested for other things when you get that done too. Though of course some people would need to get checked more often than that.

I had a johnny split on me = the clap even though I disengaged activity stat!
second time was a night of unplanned fun with a very good friend, guess I should have been more careful but we were both mortified about the situation afterwards.
Ringing round all my recent bed buddies is plenty shameful enough to ensure I'm careful.
