What's been your favourite? Maybe we'll get some ideas for the holiday sales. :)

Mine came along relatively late on: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

I've had to shortlist 10 games for the poll.

Zelda, Tekken 7 and Nioh should be on the list, and War of the Chosen (Xcom 2.5).

As for me, I have no idea, probably Nioh even though I haven't even completed it yet. Either that or Tekken 7 but I don't think a game like Tekken should get GOTY even though it's great, GOTY belongs to huge story driven or incredibly in-depth/interesting games like Fallout or Witcher (though not just RPG games, GTA 5 is another GOTY worthy title for example). Fighting games are in depth as hell but in a different way, and in a way that doesn't qualify for GOTY.

Overwatch and PUBG despite being really good games, ever being awarded a GOTY is a farce, exclusively multiplayer games, just lol.

But yeah, throwing my vote at Nioh.

Sadly I have only played a few of these games, out of the them I would have to say that Stories Untold was my favourite.

Hmm. Guess I'm getting old. That's a big list, and I have a complete total of just one of them, and have played that for less than an hour.

Yes, it's quite a big list but to be fair I think it's been a pretty good year for releases. I have a few of the games on the list, and I'm interested to see how well rated some of the games I've still to pick up are.

out of curiosity, why do you think exclusively multiplayer games shouldn't win?
I've always seen GOTY as being an award that goes to huge games with depth and most importantly, an engrossing single player experience. History backs that up as GOTY has almost exclusively been awarded to the best RPG games of their respective years, with some exceptional exceptions like Resident Evil, Zelda, Gears of War, Metroid and a few others. Now I wasn't a huge fan of Gears of War and never played Zelda but there is no mistaking that they definately focused on engrossing (love or hate) campaigns and invented features that revolutionized (for better or worse) gaming from that point forward.

Perhaps a multiplayer GOTY award would be a good solution, but realistically speaking my opinion is in the minority so I'll just have to suck it up and accept that GOTY won't hold as much prestige to me as it used to.

Divinity Original Sin 2 for me. Absolutely spectacular and hope we will see some DLC.

Trailing close behind, Mass Effect Andromeda, Assasins creed Origins and Total War warhammer with mortal Empire. (though all had one flaw or another)

If that actually does win any goty awards, I'll set my PC on fire.
Why? It's hugely popular and hugely entertaining. Admittedly is loaded with bugs due to is stage in development (which should rule it out of the running as it's not an official release yet)

Fair points. And yea I agree there should be a seperate 'multiplayer only goty catageroy'

For me, its very difficult to choose between 2 quite different games, so I give my GOTY 2017 jointly to Divinity Original Sin 2 and Assassins Creed Origins.

If PUBG was finished and with significantly less issues than it has currently then for me that would win hands down for me, probably next year.

So this years would have to be Prey. Not enjoyed a single player game as much as that since Dishonoured and probably Mafia 1 and Half life before that.
