US: Game of Thrones - Season 3 - Book Comparison (Spoilers)

Yea, I agree it needed to be spelled out but its obvious Loras is part of the kings guard and can't marry. Sansa could have told shae or someone she was going to marry Loras after being told about a vague marriage by Margery. Meh, I shouldn;t get so hung up over something so little :p

I didnt realise loras was kingsguard yet, does he not join later with the kettleback chaps?

(longclaw)Not theirs, belongs to the watch, and I wondr if he may have known the secret, there is a chance.
Howland Reed must know it, there may be others and bear island are stark bannermen are they not?

I don't believe that Mormont knows 'the secret' as you put it...but Bloodraven does, and through the LC's Raven, is influencing events. I think Jeor, at most, believes that the Raven is representing the Old Gods.

There are re-read projects focusing on Mormont's Raven, which make a strong case that he is being warged by somebody...and is guiding Jon.

On the subject of Longclaw. It does not belong to The Watch, it is Mormont's sword.

RE book changes for the series- I was originally ok with the Theon changes(mainly as Alfie Allen is perfect as Theon), but didn't like the bits in the last episode at all.

Fairly certain Loras is the replacement for the kingsguard knight that Pod kills to save Tyrion in the battle of blackwater.

One of the conditions of the Tyrell Lannister match was that Loras became a member of the Kingsguard.

I think the thing that I really don't like so far, is Littlefinger. In the books he is a great schemer, who works in secret and outsmarts everyone. In the show he might as well open a twitter account so he can update everyone of his plans throughout!....going to see Sansa in person, really!?

Isn't there a lie when Jon gets the sword about how jorah wasn't so stupid as to take the sword into exile with him? (I might of made this up:) )

What's "the secret"

RE: Little finger; yeah I remember there being a good reveal about it being littlefinger pulling the escape strings, but I guess it would take quite a lot of story telling to add the drunken fool guy as sansa's helper?

They had the drunken fool guy last season, sansa saves his life, but they seem to have skipped the character thus far this season, they may revisit him, but they are playing up Diana Riggs grandmother character, and the more screentime she gets the better, as she is absolutely superb, against not covering scenes in the books directly, but scenes that could have occurred.

I honestly think many people will be cheering the Freys and won't care at all about the RW!...Robb is handled really badly in the series.

Shireen was great in this episode...another top quality child actor on the show!
No Patchface though:(

I think people still will.

Sean bean played Ned brilliantly and the Stark's have already been ****ed over several times already. Its just another massive blow for Ned's children and I think its for those characters the viewers will feel sorry for.

yea ROB is a bit of a nob in the show trying to be like Ned but epicly failing to have me liking or feeling sorry for him everything that is happening to him is his own stupid fault
He wants to come across as a man of honour but wont honour the agreement to marry the frays daughter ? WTF? WTF? WTF? WTF?
Ned would have married her as he was a real man of honour

I have more sympathy and compassion for theon then I do rob but maybe thats just because alfie allen is a better actor? (Never thought I would find my self liking anyone from the allen family after spoilt brat lily thinking she is street wise and a peasant)

Robb was by far my favourite character in the first 3 books. was cheering him all the way, and the RW was one of the most shocking, and brilliant things I had ever read.....Now I can't wait for the RW!

Tbh, Tulisa doesn't help:o

My favourite characters in the books seem to my favourite characters in the tv show (Arya, Ygritte, Jaime) which can only be a good thing, at this stage Dany probably comes out a bit better in the tv shows though, Sansa isn't *as* annoying.

Yep. I think the RW will be good but not as shocking as in the books because of the way Rob comes across in the show. I hope it's shown the same as how it happens in the book too.
Really looking forward to Ayra's story taking off, but I guess that won't be until next series.

I get lost in the rules (doesn't bode well for everyone else!) but are we allowed to speculate on future evens past the current book set?

I think this thread is more of a book/series comparison rather than purely book talk, I think there's a Wind's of Winter thread.

The Brotherhood selling Gendry is right up there with Jaime killing Cleos, and Catelyn releasing Jaime as the worst and most damaging changes they have made.
