Games you Bought and played Once

Lately...

TDU2. As noted above car handling pants, constant interruption from in game messaging when all you want to do is explore.

Duke Nukem Forever. Just seemed meargh and got stuck in a death loop early in, ergo no interest in going further.

Cities In Motion. Poor mans Transport Tycoon.

World Rally Championship (the last one). Stupid arcade based gameplay, laughable car physics little/no customisation, not a patch on RBR or the old Magnetic Fields Game.

Oh and Hawx 2. Wasn't expecting Falcon 5 but I was at least expecting a game on a par with Strike Commander or US Navy Fighters. No such luck. Arcadey, unrealistic rubbish.

I think most of the people in this thread are mental for ignoring games like metro 2033 and portal but I didn't last more than 20mins into Mass Effect. It played like some cheesy console game and I hated it. I also didn't like Dead Space either so I reckon it's the 3rd person aspect that puts me off. Crysis 2 was complete garbage too but I forced myself to complete it anyway.

Portal 1 (Portal 2 has been played and played and then played a little more, however)

Left 4 Dead 2 - Impulse buy in steam sales. Loaded once, to change my graphics settings.

The Sims Medieval - I was told it was good... Spent about an hour on it before getting incredibly bored.

And some others:

Halo 3
Red Dead Redemption
Gun
Starcraft 2 (In all fairness, I love the game. I'm just bad at it and don't have any patience to play)

Most annoying one for me was Supreme Commander 2...I adored the first one and thinking it would be more of the same bought it for full price when it first came out. Installed it, Played for 20 minutes before realising what utter tripe it was and have never went back to it sinse.

Just cant beleive they raped the series so bad and took away all the elements that actually made SupCom 1 so good...im speaking huge epic maps, huge epic battles, huge oceans for sea combat. All gone! very annoyed at it.

Ohh and sims medevial...awesome idea...tripe game.

I am pretty careful with game purchases so I can't think of this happening to me.

I'm the same. When purchasing a game it's quite a selective process. If I've read various great things about it from multiple / credible sources and it takes my fancy I'll consider buying it. Credible being the key word, so much drivel written out there.

Reading the names of games that people have listed makes my jaw drop is disbelief in this thread, either people have crap tastes in games or too much disposable income.

Actually, I don't see much of MW2, must be the taste thing :)

What can I say, I've got about 90 odd games on steam and I tend to only play 2 or 3 of those games regularly. One of them being css, which I've been playing since it came out :p

The majority of the others have either been played once or not at all yet (damn steam sales/box sets!).

I tend to just play one game a lot though and go through phases depending on what I fancy/what my mates are playing e.g. WoW for a few months, then css for a few months, then TF2, etc.

TF2 - had a quick blast, but it just didn't grab me
L4D + L4D2 - gave each a quick play on the campaign, but again just didn't feel the urge to continue
Prey - played 2/3 through in one sitting, later deleted it because it had gone untouched (and unmissed) for 9 months.

Most of the time I have the problem a few people have referenced - a game is good, and I play it 3-4 times, but then something else comes along, and I move on, and by the time I come back to it 6 months later I can't remember the plot or what I was in the middle of, and can't be arsed to restart from scratch. This is particularly dangerous with games like X:TC and Oblivion - both excellent games, but I'm lost when I turn back to them. So I play yet more BFBC2 instead.

Stalker, just couldn't get into it. Lost interest as I also bought another game at the same time, and played that instead.

I try to force myself to finish singleplayer games though, Far Cry 2 is an example. Bought it at Christmas, 69% of the way through, play it for around an hour every week or so. Despite not actually hating the game like some do, the stupid respawning points and gun jams etc really drains my will to play the game, which I then have to rebuild up over the week.

Bioshock 2 - Completed it, online was laggy so uninstalled
Aquaria
Lugaru HD
Penumbra
Portal
Stalker
Shadowgrounds & Survivor
Civ 3 Complete Edition
Trine
World of goo
Gish
Spore

Probably some others that I have under my desk, Don't know what the last game I completed. I think it was Mass Effect 2

I'm a big fan of the Sims series, but I only played Sims 2 for a couple of hours. I just didn't get into it as much as the other ones. In contrary though, I think most people rated Sims 2 over 1 & 3.

I only played Dragon Age (original + expansions all-in-one pack) only once, but that was because it coincided with my conjunctivitis problem which I'm still recovering from. I will give it another try soon though.

The first Harry Potter game, I finished in a single night of gaming. Just way too short. The sequel (Chamber of Secrets), same engine, but was a lot better, and it took me a few weeks to complete it. More replay value too, and followed the book a bit better.

Tomb Raider III. Played for little over an hour and didn't go back. It must had been a pretty crap game anyway as I listed it 3 times on eBay, no sale, and none of the game shops would trade it in.
