Gaming Cost and Electricity prices going up in the UK

I think you're about right - I am unlikely to be looking to upgrade to a 40 or 7000 series (this statement may age badly!) unless there is some serious game development on both a graphical and gameplay basis, to be honest.

I don't think electricity prices are likely to have a big impact on my decision though - If I'm in a position where it is, I will have bigger problems than choosing a GPU.
 
still have a year and half to go on my fixed deal

and in the grand scheme of things used to use more money on lighting two rooms
 
I can't see me gaming less.

I mainly play civ4 (the best civ), so I guess my 3060ti isn't using that much power.

I've started turning off my speaker amp/sub when the pc is off. I always turn the pc off when not using it, as ot always seemed wasteful not to.
 
I doubt that anybody will game less.

If somebody wants to save money they'll drop GPU tier or two to save energy. Perhaps a 4080 instead of 4090.

Buying your usual tier but gaming less to save money is absolutely ridiculous.

Being honest, I am glad you're able to keep doing what you love though. We're lucky enough to be in positions where the energy rises are painful, but not a food/warmth decision. Be mindful of those who aren't as fortunate.

This is major inflation, 50 years in the making, covid would have added some, but that oil price sitting at $90+
Food/warmth yes people lower down are having these problems, could be trouble ahead for the UK.
 
Gaming cost is minor I would imagine unless you're gaming for 8 hours solid a day, every day I doubt most people will be more than an couple of hours a week.

Mining costs however, thats another story.

Yes not going to upgrade unless they pull something spectacular out of the bag, twice the horsepower of a 3090 so we can finally have soft reflections, cause real time RT is the Holy Grail! :)

Yeah we are some way off but I talked about that back when people were getting excited at the Turing release. :) Still see die hards defending it as a characteristic swaying decisions but for me it is always after fps>quality on native which basically means rasterisation has to be there in abundance to begin with (not sure on your thoughts regarding this Harold?).

Still it is playable on most games these days particularly thanks to DLSS, so I can see it becoming the norm, the devs wont have any excuses as it should be factored in from day one instead of implementing it part way into production (or post).

Good move, I think all of us need to do some prepping if say utilities start going down.

When I posted my first inflation warning June 2021 I didn't think we would get this much this fast and it was a YELLOW ALERT, just shows markets can turn
things upside down in just a few weeks or months.

The price cap is to rise again October 2022 by £500 or more. Now this can't keep going on in these large jumps or we'll have food/fuel/electricity rationing
at some point and that means unrest, looking at the last few days of Sri Lanka pics its a horror story. So I'm calling a AMBER ALERT for inflation now.
If we get rationing or the next GFC it will be raised to red alert, hope I don't need to do that but I did predict the GFC and all other predictions have come true.

What if we get electricity rationing, say 5 or 10 hours off per day? How will you game, I'm looking to build a wind turbine as I live on the coast with plenty of wind all year, and do cooking with it too.
Of course I'm profiting a lot as the inflation sets in, but who wants more wealth if its scary to even go outside, so I'm thinking of upping the door/window security sometime this year so can sleep better at nights and I think you should too. The inflation is picking up faster than a speeding bullet.

I don’t think society will become crazy over energy prices. No need to change your windows. Save some money lol

Excellent, but 5 hours a day is not happening lol. Maybe average out at an hour a day or something.

Still goes to show these 500w+ cards releasing this year is a bit :cry: Combine one of them with the latest intel processors that like to gobble down 200w+ and yikes.
