Hi Folks,

I am looking at getting a new mouse to replace my ms v6000 laser mouse. I don't find my mouse that comfortable for long gaming stints so am looking for something more suitable. The reason why I don't get on with it is that I have fairly large hands and my ring finger and my little finger hand off the side. I have held a logitec mouse (mx500) and with it being a right handed mouse there were places to put my ring and little finger. With my mouse being able to be used by both left and right handers there isn't a lot of space on it on either sides of the buttons.

I quite like the look of the mx518 and am probably going to get that but I hear lots of good things about the razor mice but looking at the pictures it seems to be a non specific handed mouse and so will it have the same comfort problems I have with my ms mouse?

Do you have any recommendations of good gaming mice?

Thanks

Matt

I've used a MX518 for years I've had 2 of them, when my last one died I didn't even consider buying another brand of mouse. Would seriously recommend a MX518.

I'm currently using a Microsoft Sidewinder

Bought it instead of a Razer mouse as I just don't like the shape, just feels odd

This Sidewinder is simply awesome though, when I first saw it I dismissed it straight away due to its shape, but once I used one it just felt so nice to use. It feels really well made too and the customisable weight of it makes it a lot nicer to a wider range of people

The buttons on it are really nice too, nice solid feel to them and the side buttons are in a place that means you aren't going to press them unless you mean too. No more grenade accidents :p

The on the fly DPI switching is nice too, the LCD screen on it reminds you what setting you are on, but the buttons also light up to remind you which setting is active

The feet on it help it to glide across any surface, I don't use a mouse mat, just straight onto my desk, and had no issues.

Great mouse, not the cheapest but definitley a case of get what you pay for :)

i'm all for the MX518. if/when this one dies i'm definitely going for a direct replacement.

Agreed. I don't know much about mice, but it has all the buttons I need, and the dpi switching is pretty nifty. I rarely use it, but its nice to have, and occasionally sees some use when I go sniping.
And the document flip button is pretty cool. In vista it activates the flip3d, which I like. Didn't use it in XP though.

Also a sidewinder owner, 3 choices of feet to use for tweaking the slip!! and weights all make it a nice feeling mouse! macro learning softeware too :)

I've always owned Microsoft mice but I replaced my last with a MX 518 and it's the ebst mouse I've ever owned.

I went from a Logitech G5 to a Razer Deathadder and never looked back, sits in my hand perfect although I think gaming mice are all personal preference.

My last few mice have been logitech and i was happy with all of them. Got a Razer Diamondback for christmas and ive been very impressed especially as its one of the cheaper models. I know some people dont get on with them but ive found it to be extremely comfortable and responsive to use.

Another vote for MX518!

I have had 2 Razors, can't remember name of first and got Lachesis just before Xmas. I don't think my hand is that big yet i found both to be on the small side for me. Side buttons are also hard to press as they sit quite flush to body of mouse and require a bit of effort to hit.

Bought an MX518 last week and much prefer it. I'd only recommend a Razor if you have small hands and nimble fingers. It is however, well made, has comprehensive software suite and very satisfying click action - but too small for me, and position and design of side buttons poor. Its all about personal preference but IMHO Razor Mice are overrated!
