Gaming mice

I used a (new) Intellimouse Explorer V3 to replace my rather worn (and very old) Intellimouse Explorer V3. Really like the shape of these mice - found them to be very comfortable

Unfortunately I lost it when coming back home after seeing my parents so I needed a new mouse - ended up going for the Logitech MX620 which I'm rather happy with

Ive had the MS intellimouse for about 4 years i think, not too sure. I use all of the side buttons etc ALL the time in games and windows. I sometimes think about getting a gaming mouse but worry about getting used to a different layout. How did you find it ?? I've recently moved from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 and it seems to be less accurate in games for that res, does that sound right?

I've got a copperhead and love it. Go to a shop and try them out though because you just can't tell otherwise.

That's just what I thought

The MX620 doesn't look like a 'gaming mouse' so to speak

It doesn't have loads of buttons - just the two on the mouse, scroll wheel button, a search button and two on the left for backwards and forwards just like the Intellimouse

It's also got a switch underneath to turn the clicker for the scroll wheel on and off (if you've played an FPS with a smooth scroll wheel you'll appreciate this!)

I haven't bothered with the drivers - not necessary. Doesn't seem to lag either that I can tell even though it's wireless. Really happy with it - the middle mouse button works normally too which is nice as I use it for reload in games!

I went from:
Dell mouse to Logitech MX510 to Razer Diamondback to Razer Deathadder

Now I'm back to the logitech :) The Razer's didn't feel too good in my hands and were also really frustrating because you can accidentally click the buttons at any moment. The scroll button was polar opposite - taking much more pressure to press

If you need to make use of the scroll wheel or middle-click then rule any Microsoft mouse out, the scroll wheel is smooth so it is rubbish in games to switch weapon and it is nearly impossible to middle-click.

Had an MX510 and replaced it with an MX518 when it broke after 3+ years of heavy usage. MX518 is still going strong and I love the comfort :) . I just can't get on properly with other mice after these Logitechs!

MX518 was great, then the RMB broke. Ended up purchasing a G5 thinking it was the next model up from MX518. In a way it was, but it was missing an extra side button which I was used to. Other than that, it is a great mouse.

Sidewinder scroll wheel is one of the best I've used, so that certainly isnt a problem

Most professional players use one of the following.

Microsoft Intellimouse 3
Microsoft Intellimouse 3 SS
Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1
Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1 SS
Logitech MX518
Razer Deathadder

There may be instances of other mice being used, but they are few and far between.

Ideally, you want a good surface to use with that. I have a low sensetivity, around 15 inches per 180, so I use a large, cloth surface. Several are available, the best of which are generally considered to be....

Steelseries QCK+
Steelseries QCK Heavy
Everglide Titan
Razer Mantis

Oh, and you'll want an optimization guide if you're finickety like myself.

Try and find a mouse that suits your grip, and is comfortable to use.

I'm mainly refering to their Intellimouse series (5-button). I've owned about 5 MS mice, the first one was great but they seemed to go for the weird smooth scroll wheel with horizontal scrolling after the first edition.

Just got my hands on a logitech G7

loving it so far, only negative i would say is that the midle mouse button (clicking the wheel)

is a little stiff and im having to get used to it.

being able to change the battery packs in seconds is awsome :)
