Gaming mice

well a quick look and it would appear the dignitas COD4 team use either G5 and deathadders on qpad surfaces.
from memory the reason guys also used mostly logitech and razer mice. TLR seemed to be mostly using mx518s and g5s as well.

I found a MX518 in a high street shop. Was still in its box, but I could could rest hand on the moulded plastic window to see how well it fitted (ghetto style). So getting a 2007 version G5 that has the same amount of buttons.

Also like Logitech's replacement feet ability, as I imagine Razer would tell you to go buy some.

You get a pair of spare feet with it.

i have a microsoft intellismouse, but at theminute using a cheap logitech wireless which i got which keyboard combo from ocuk...playing WOW now though so might switch back just for the extra few buttons on the intellimouse

Thread from the dead. :D

Right an update on the new G5. I've had a play about with it on a number of games including Crysis and UT3, and i have to say the G5 feels spot on. Size and feel wise its same as the mx510, the weight cartridge is handy as you can adjust to your personal preference so how heavy or light you like a mouse is up to you. I'm using it with a Razer ExactMat and it glides like a greased pig over the surface.

It is quite a bit more sensitive than the mx510 and does take some getting used to, but you can also change dpi on the fly and have a play about with the software and customize it to your needs. In game there are no hitches or hang ups, its really smooth and the switchable dpi can come in handy for precision shots or if u need to move really fast like in UT3.

Even though there was nothing really wrong with my mx510, i've been tempted to try a new mouse for a while, and was tempted by the Razer stuff. But in the end i'm glad i stuck with Logitech, its a great mouse.

10/10

Just replaced my ageing G5 and Radpad for:

Razer Lachesis £44.64

and

SteelPad 4D Plastic Mouse Pad £17.61

Chose the mouse mainly for its ambidextrous design, i'm right handed but use my left for mouse control :o

Been playing online tonight with it, bit of a twitchy beast, very responsive and also very light compared to the G5. Hopefully after a few more days with it, it'll feel as good as the G5.

Sidewinder seems like a taccy waste of pennies to me, design is horrid :(
well after using the ms optical 1.1 for five years the sidewinder was a perfect progression to me no complaints about it all :),maybe it was expensive but i wouldnt swap it for anything else right now imo
2p :p

The deathadder is a great mouse. Much more comfortable than other Razer mice, it feels more like the MS intellimouse v3 in your hand.

Anyone know a good optical mouse with a rechargable batteries dock to charge overnight and obviously is cordless. Going for about £15 max. My current mouse has a busted scroll wheen (doesnt scroll fully and snaps the other way sometimes) so lookin for replacment for about the same cash and features. Would like a more comfortable better shape one than one i have tho as this one is too fat i feel now and just isnt nice to use anymore so lookin for a low profile one maybe or narrower one with a thumb rest maybe i duno.

Dont like the looks of any of them, far too tall (fat) and button placement doesnt look right on any of em for the left side. And over the budget of around 15 quid.

MX518 is the best choice by far :)

Read this article on gaming mice and you'll agree:

I was gonna link that! Quite an enlightening article :p Interesting to see how some cheapo mice are actually pretty nifty and some expensive ones are not as good as they would have you believe.

Have a G5 myself and it does the job, though I bought it before seeing that article, looking back I could have saved a few pennies!

Yeah. One of the guy's who comes along to the LAN linked me to it a while back. I felt lucky that I'd bought an MX518 without bothering to research it :) Does show how shocking some of the more supposedly-uber mice are, really.

I wish they'd make more wireless gaming mice.

Seems like there isn't much that is better than my MX700, apart from the G7, but that has only one side button. :(

Even when I professionally played and at quite frankly owned at Q2 and Q3A I used a cheap 2 button basic Microsoft mouse. Never blame your tools. ;)

I currently use a very yellowy intelli mouse and a cherry keyboard that has missing fonts and sticky keys, I'm still pretty respectable at FPS too. :D

Don't buy a G7. Whilst i have no problems with the mouse itself (its great!), the batteries only last a day after a full charge...
