Gaming mice

Think I'm going to try a Logitech next time, I've had two Razors in the past, Diamondback and recently the Lachesis. Something just doesn't feel right with the Lachesis, can't put my finger on it.

At the end of the day there is no "best" mouse, just a case of finding which one suits you best.

I loved my old intellimouse optical with the large side buttons either side set up for strafe left & right. Then went to the MX518 had 2 which both died relatively quickly, have now got the Sidewinder, it takes a little getting used to but has loads of features and I'm hoping it lasts as long as the optical did.

Most professional players use one of the following.

Microsoft Intellimouse 3
Microsoft Intellimouse 3 SS
Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1
Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1 SS
Logitech MX518
Razer Deathadder

Just wondering, why is G5 not there? I thought it was the next model up from MX518

I have a Razer Diamondback, had a Razer Viper before that and I strongly suspect the next mouse I get will be another Razer, they are fantastic.

I bought the mx518 today and have been using it for the past 30mins. It's great! I had to mess to get the sens right in ut3 again but now it's sorted it is much more comfortable than my ms v6000. I've got some steel series feet on the way to me to make it perfect to use with my steel series mouse mat.

Cheers for the advice!

Matt

MX518 was great, then the RMB broke. Ended up purchasing a G5 thinking it was the next model up from MX518. In a way it was, but it was missing an extra side button which I was used to. Other than that, it is a great mouse.
Just about to order the new revison of the G5, with the extra side button. Going from an MX510 which has lasted me about 4 years, so hopefully the G5 will be just as good.

I 'downgraded' from an mx518 to a logitech LX5. The only thing I miss is the on-the-fly-dpi, which I only occasionally used anyway. The thumb groove/flange doesn't stick out far enough to actually support your thumb (big hand here), so the side buttons were superfluous to me and I now use the tilt wheel buttons on the LX5 instead anyway.

The DPI is lower, 800 or 1000 I think, but I'm one of the 99% who can't tell the difference;) The mx518 also had tiny feet which wore out to quick.

If you'd prefer an extra button or two consider the LX7. They're not branded as gaming mice but they are quality.:)

Please update with your thoughts :) I also have an MX510, but it's quite worn now:(

my mice have gone as follows:

tried out the feel of the logitech mice. got an mx510.
got a G5
that wore out after about two years of heavy use and the occaisional spillage, and even then it was just the dpi switching buttons and the middle click that were a little dodgy. sold that to a mate for a tenner, and picked up a G9.

Loveing the G9 now, even if it is a little pricey.

I found a MX518 in a high street shop. Was still in its box, but I could could rest hand on the moulded plastic window to see how well it fitted (ghetto style). So getting a 2007 version G5 that has the same amount of buttons.

Also like Logitech's replacement feet ability, as I imagine Razer would tell you to go buy some.

Ive got the MX510 I think its great, I'd definitely get an MX518 if I felt the need to replace it.

I dunno how you guys appear to be getting through so many mice, Ive had the '510 for years and it has shown no sign of wear and tear

Laser Mice tend to malfunction (skip, basically) at a lower speed than optical mice. Most "pros" play on a relativley low sensitivity compared to joe public, resulting in large, fast movements across the pad for 180's and such. Fast movement induces horrible malfunction in laser mice. They also tend to have issues with certain surfaces, can cause them not to track so well. I'm just generalising here, so don't quote me on it.

There is plenty of discussion on mice and such on the gotfrag forums, but I can't access them at work and provide you with any links.

I went from an MX510 which I loved to a G5 which I hated. I then got the MS Habu mouse which was brilliant until it started to randomly BSOD my PC. Now have the sidewinder which is also nice.
