Gaming moments that surprised and delighted you

I'm in my 40's now and I don't know why, but most of my fond memories of gaming came from playing games like Dan Dare, Beach Head, Raid Over Moscow, Paradroid 90, Monty Mole & Shadow Of The Beast, Wizball, Goal, Sanction, Uridium etc on the C64 & Amiga. Looking back, yes the games are simplistic in comparison to today's games, but maybe they left more to the imagination and that's why I enjoyed them so much and have such fond memories of them.

My only real fond memories of PC gaming are the Half Life series and Far Cry and now maybe it's time to hang up my joy pad and mouse and retire, as I'm getting too old for games.

I'd say Metal gear solid 2...

Colonel spacks out, and he is real...

And when the play screen takes place in the section of the death video, really crazy.

The one that always comes to mind for me was when my mate introduced me to a new game called 'Doom', in the dark with the sound up quite high. I couldn't believe how immersive it was, I was leaning to try and look around corners! Absolutely terrifying, but when I first heard then saw the Cyberdemon OMG! Then the cover jumped off the desk fan behind us and I jumped out of my skin. Don't know how my heart survived that! A night I will never forget

Actually though I never got very far into WoW, the first time I took an overland flight across most of the original continent, and it just flowed by below with not a loading screen in sight was pretty awesome.

First time playing Resident Evil on the PS. The 'L shaped Corridor' and dogs jumping through windows. That surprised me.

This!!!!
Although it was many years ago i can remember it plain as day ... It was about 3am and a pitch black room, the dogs came crashing through the window and i shot about 2 feet in the air, squeeled like a little girl and threw the controller across the room :D

Another great moment for me was back in vanilla WoW when my guild got our first kill on Ragnaros in molten core, we had been trying for weeks, when he finally went down and hearing 40 people go absolutely berserk on vent was just brilliant.

For me, nothing will ever beat my first taste of on-line gaming. It was 1998 and thought I would try this thing called Wireplay that I got on a cover disc. Fired up Quake 2 and got onto a server. It was that standard level from the start of the single player campaign with the broken bridge. Game started, saw other people running around, shot at them........mind blown. Don't think I logged off until around 2001 :p

My first experience of a hardware accelerated 3D game is also something I'll never forget. It was Foresaken running on an ATi RageII card in 1997. Rubbish game, but seeing those graphics with no huge blocky pixels and sexy lighting was absolutely jaw-dropping.

Shadow of the Colossus - literally the whole game.

One of the best games ever made.

Resident evil is still the only game that has ever scared me.

Playing counter strike online for the first time.

Street fighter on consoles...just like the arcade, it was mind blowing at the time.

Not a gaming moment per se, but the opening cut scene/intro to Red Alert 2. That was so freaking awesome.

Discovering how to perfect the art of playing a warrior tank in WoW was great fun. MC, BWL, AQ40, Naxx, etc.

The milkman story in Psychonauts was just pure brilliance.
