Its a great supplement for your entertainment needs. I have been using it for gaming in conjunction with my g-sync 1440p ips monitor. Monitor is on an arm so when I wanna go big I just swing it over and sit back.
The Benq w1070 I had for around 2 years now and the lag is 20ms which is fine for Singleplayer fps and console gaming. The cinematic experience when you get covered in an 80 or even 100 inch screen is amazing (But probably some neck craning so keep it sensible)
Movies be on projectors, but youtube stuff I don't change but when I wanna bust out the big guns I switch to the projector.
Of course for competitive high octane multiplayer gaming you cant beat the edge of a 4ms 1440p 144hz monitor, so overwatch, doom, and league all stay on my monitor along with most surfing. So 80% screen 20% projector.
It works pretty seamlessly but some fiddling with the connections can get tedious.
I'm eyeing a 4K projector in 2-5 years time. Optoma just announced a 4K HDR projector for £2000 compared to sonys £8000 one a year ago so prices are dropping. One drawback is 1080p on a 100inch screen makes the letters look pixellated and huge, so I think 4K will be ideal for projection computing for my next jump. Hopefully more 4K infrasturcture and content by then too.
But 1080p low lag projection for your gaming needs is highly recommended. (as for projection screens I opted to use a plain white painted wall. It looks slightly worse but the freedom to switch sizes at will/content is one of the reasons projection gaming is so good. One day I feel like 50 inch, the next day 120 inch even depending on size of content [tekken where you need to see the health bars vs horizon zero dawn for expansive landscapes])
Drawbacks
Lightcontrol (blackout blinds must espescially in summer).
No walking in front of projector, sometimes stiff poses to avoid this, need to put projector in high location like on top of a cupboard. (must have good ventilation, do not enclose or block vents)
Sometimes smaller screen or bigger screen will mean you want to move projector closer or further (throw distance varies) so a fixed point would mean you lose some sizes (smaller is brighter!).
lamp dims over time will need changing after around 3 years use.
Noise can be issue in high performance mode.
