gaming slump

Why don't you try something completely different for a change of pace? Farm Simulator 17 is awesome and it's only £18 at the moment. Or Stardew Valley. Both would be very relaxing games to play. Farm Simulator works really well with a gamepad as well, so you could really relax when playing it. Try something new!

i do have farming sim '13 with mods, not quite up to splashing for '17 yet but may do some day.

good suggestion though.

I find Fallout 4 quite engaging and currently on my 6th or thereabouts playthrough. This is the first run where I've looked at mods, fairly simple stuff like better vegetation (makes the game much more pleasant on the eyes), scrapping mod and extra weapons. I've set myself the challenge of getting past Level 100 this time. Outside of that I'll dabble with flight and train sims when I just want to chill and do nothing in particular.

GTAV also looking to do another playthrough once I finish FO4. Maybe investigate the mods - I want to actually drive the goods train and metro cars.

However I do empathise with the OP. The last new game I bought was probably Deus Ex MK and, frankly, it left me feeling unfulfilled and a bit depressed. Back in the day titles like Dirt 4 or Golf Club would have been Day 1 purchases but as yet I haven't got round to trying them. Perhaps it is an age thing, been gaming since 1992 and an Amiga 600 but also modern games don't tend to offer much variety. Back in the 90's there was always a new Janes or Microprose flight sim coming out and plenty of space combat games. The devs had to deliver something that was better than the competition and gameplay which took as much priority as nice graphics or cut scenes.

I had a slump after andromeda no surprise there! As others say take a break, I just returned to horizon zero dawn and it's a masterpiece wish I played this sooner!

Hmm, people are into this stuff? Strangely, it does seem a bit interesting...

Mmm, the bulldozer! Build a motocross track with it? :D

I'm really enjoying playing Subnautica at my own pace, though the glitchy pop-in graphics are occasionally annoying.

The last game I completed was XCOM 2 and I've really struggled to get properly into any game since apart from Subnautica without having an attack of the "mehs".

This oddly includes games I was really looking forward to including:

- Doom
- Prey
- Nier:Automata

I'm guessing I've only put 4-5 hours into the above before losing interest in playing them anymore.

yeah, it's glitchy all right, and this laptop is nowhere near able to run it well, i got as far as having the cyclops/seamoth/prawn combo going and it was getting well out the realms of playable by my (rather low) standards.

seeing 30+fps in bltps is a treat by comparison!

guessing i'm not the only person this happens to.

currently been playing subnautica, great game and how i wish it wasnt the laggy barely functional mess it is on this laptop, or that i had my main rig to overcome these issues with a bit of blunt horsepower

also recently got sniper elite 3, i've been giving it a go but it's just not engaging me like the original did, just kinda boring for some reason.

final option is borderlands, i've been playing bl2 to death for the past few months and i picked up the pre sequel in the steam sale there, but somehow i can't bring myself to start it even though i know it'll be fun.

so, what do you do when this happens? should i just force myself to concede that i'm not going to get any further in subnautica on this machine, and force myself to play bltps until i get hooked into that?

they ruined SE3 with all the new mechanics, much preferred the silliness as opposed to realism

recently been playing some payday 2 which is pretty varied

i think moving it out of war torn europe has made it a whole lot harder, the level design just doesn't seem to be anywhere near as engaging, even if it is more open.

plus the whole lack of easy cover has made it much more difficult to be sneaky, combined with a lack of aircraft/artillery noise everywhere meaning you need to be more sneaky.

either way, it's just not got the same flare the second one did, i'm never a fan of games like this and assasins creed going crazy on the old gadgets, especially if they force you to use them.

I first downloaded FS14 on my Fire tablet for my 3 year old son to play as he just loves tractors, farming, and everything to do with it. Since then, he's become an expert on everything farming-related, from knowing what seed drills are, to ploughs, cultivators, and of course, his absolute favourite, combine and forage harvesters! He loves to play the game although he's more a "buy as much as possible" player as he doesn't really understand the concept of money just yet. He does know that he needs to farm and keep farming in order to make money though! After I saw how much he enjoyed that, I picked up Farming Simulator 17 on Steam with a view to playing it with him on the TV using the Steam Link. With the controller, it plays perfectly and he's actually able to play it himself using the controller. He was playing yesterday and I'm impressed at how good he is with it.

I will admit that after I played the game on the Fire tablet and TV with him, I'm hooked as well! It's essentially everything you'd do on a farm, the systems in place all work with one another and you farm, harvest, sell and then use the money to buy more land to farm, or equipment to help you farm better. There are missions that involve you helping out other farmers in the game, and there's also a forestry element that you can buy equipment for and then sell wood to the sawmill. The mods for the game are pretty impressive as well. There are some very well made UK farms available to play. As a game to relax on, it's utterly perfect :)

Been in a 'slump' for the past 2 years. Barely brought anything new and sort of just lost interest in the industry as a whole. I'm a bit of a serial hobbyist though so balancing out 2 or 3 things at a time alongside friends, family and work is almost impossible. Games

I just play what I want, when I want now as apposed to obsessing about the next big release or making lists of games I need to catch up on.

I've got £50 in my PayPal and it's been lying there for about a month. Believe it or not, I've got £55 in my Steam account that's been there since the summer sale ended. Every game I bought I felt compelled to refund due to being crap or poor performance. So yea, a bit of a slump for me too.

I recently picked up Far Cry 4 and am close to completing it and I can honestly see me starting all over again for another play through, I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I've liked it so much because with nothing else floating my boat, I've really focused on the side stuff and been quite thorough. Example is taking my time to take a camp without being spotted etc..

Games I'm looking forward to at the minute are Shadow of War and Wolfenstein II. Hopefully they don't disappoint.

Same here. Nothing I am interested in playing is coming out any time soon. Just playing old games now and then.

Mainly playing board games with my partner which is a lot more fun than anything available on the PC for me at the moment.

The only game coming out this year that maybe interesting is the new shadow of mordor, but not in a rush to play it on release or anything, will grab it when on sale and when all beta testing is done :)

I got the same problem. I used to think that games have become too lame to catch my interest, which was easy to believe with recent E3 fail and movie-based games and moblie crap and Telltale cash-grabs being on the rise. But then I did some self-reflection and thought that it was me. I don't have what it takes to play through games anymore. I don't do long-term commitment anymore. I'm old and I'm busy. So I started playing between video editing, writing and reading. it works in small portions. I also got in the early 2000s games like Oni and the first Hitman game. Nostalgia helps.

Yes I would love to be able to go back and play some of those old 1990's flight and space sims, also Lemmings and Lemmings 2 which I poured hours into on the old Amiga!

I think part of it comes down to lack of choice. There are long waits between big release titles, compared to 10/15 years ago. And that makes since given that games are so much more complex than they were back then, but its still a factor that leaves me a little flat when it comes to gaming lately.

I think part of it comes down to lack of choice.

But surely the vast catalogue of games means that this is only a problem if you're solely interested in new releases. There are so many amazing games across multiple platforms from the last 15 years that are worth experiencing that choice should never be an issue. If anything it's the opposite!

Ah!

Bruce Lee on C64 was probably the first game I couldn't put down. Then there was King's Quest VI... I remember drawing out a map of the Catacombs to try and progress. Also enjoyed The Hobbit on the C64. These games would be unbearable to play now that we're used to the glossy graphics etc..
