Gaming with a keyboard and mouse isnt that great

Thought they would never do a console and pc game that can do multiplayer together as the pc would kinda own the console as mouse is better?

How many buttons does your mouse have? I wouldn't be happy gaming these days without at least two side buttons in addition to the left, right and middle. One side button is usually assigned to crouch, toggle preferably.

I recently moved back to pc gaming and could not get on with the m/kb combination- it just felt really odd after so many years console gaming. I went and bought a gamepad but it just can't compete with m/kb in online fps games.
I forked up some money for a steelseries merc and a decent mouse and am now fully used to it! it just took a bit of time.

They Actually did trials of this I forget what game it was for (shadow run maybe), the mouse & keyboard players wiped the floor with the game pad players it was something like 10-1 against the pad.
the only pad any good for FPS was the N64's IMO Goldeneye played like a dream on the pad.

If you can get used to the feel and layout then KB+Mouse is very good especially for FPS games.

Personally though, these days I am too lazy and play casually not seriously, instead I kick back with the Xbox 360 controller plugged in :D :o

I think that had one of the big consoles been given proper mouse & keyboard support that the console war would have played out much differently this gen, forget all the PSmove/Kenetic Shiz mouse & keyboard would have won it for one of them.
Fingers crossed for the next gen I know it would win me over.

I never use additional mouse keys, always more comfortable with keys for me.

The Dreamcast tried that. You could use the keyboard/mouse in the Dreamcast version of Quake 3 etc. It wasn't very popular.

Why would you want a keyboard and mouse on your games console AND computer?

Aside from children, most people have their games console in their front room, the last thing they'd want to do is stick a keyboard on it!

In addition with a PC you sit at a desk, with a games consoles you typically lounge on the sofa, a poof, a beanbag, a pillow on the floor and so on.

Where do you propose people perch the keyboard so it doesn't prove uncomfortable and therefore a hindrance to use - a desk?

K&M needs to die! well for gaming anyway. I used to say pad for everything apart from RTS games, but saying that c&c was totally playable on the PS3.

You cant beat just kicking back and blasting away on a pad. I wont buy a game from now on that doesnt have support for an wireless xbox pad.

Neither gamepad or K&M is "better" than the other - they've both got their advantages and disadvantages.

Yes, you can't beat sitting back with a controller and playing a racing game or a platform game, but you also can't beat the precision and speed a mouse gives you for RTS and FPS games, for example.

Ideally, I'd want both (and have both), and pick the one that most suits your preferred style of play for the game you're currently playing.

Only issue I have with some games is when prone is bound to Z,

My fingers just don't bend like that! I always bind it to X, problem solved.

Also its odd, you have to use the finger thats resting on the shift key to press Z, just feels inefficient to me.

With the X bind, I just move the finger that was resting on D down and to the left. Trust me this feels 100% awesome and much better way of playing.

Do you remember the days when driving games were controlled using "a" and "z" for acceleration and deceleration and the "," and "." keys for left and right?

First games I had with these controls were Screamer and Hard Drivin' I think. AWESOME games.

EDIT - just checked. Can't believe Screamer was out in 95, feels way older.

What utter toss.

FPS and RTS, as an example, will ALWAYS be better on a keyboard and mouse because of the flexibility and precision they offer.

You simply cannot recreate mouse movement with a gamepad stick.

Yeah but racing games are better with a wheel and pedals attached to a desk, the PC is at the front again.

Sure it's not good for casual gamers, but if we're talking the 'best' in class then you cannot deny the PC it's crown.
