Gaming with a keyboard and mouse isnt that great

What utter toss.

FPS and RTS, as an example, will ALWAYS be better on a keyboard and mouse because of the flexibility and precision they offer.

You simply cannot recreate mouse movement with a gamepad stick.

I agree with RTS, but FPS much better on xbox pad.

Like i said c&c was more than playable on the PS3, but agree it is currently better on k&m.

Please follow these steps to understand which is best for you.
KB+M:
More accurate
Faster response

Gamepad:
More natural playing position

Neither is "better" outright. For sitting on the sofa, gamepad is best. For general, relaxed play, your preference is fine. For competetive/serious play, KB + M best.

I lay back on my sofa with kb+m and USB extensions:cool:

There are many games where I can't use a controller such as FPS, but if a game is not really action packed I will use a pad. If you take Deus Ex:HR as an example, when I played it as a stealth character, i used a pad because I wasn't shooting much, and it didn't make much difference, but when I played differently, I used kb/m for shooting better and probably would have struggled on higher difficulties with a controller. If a game is stealth based, I will usually look to use a controller.

I will try and use a controller for some games if I can. skyrim for example, I prefer with a controller, though you miss out on some extra favourite buttons.

Really? I've tried many times to play an FPS on a pad. I just find it so clunky, awkward and inaccurate.

Personally, you can't best a K&M for FPS. :)

I depends on your setup. if you sat in a chair infront of your monitor might feel a bit awkward. Ive got my PC hucked up to my 60" LED tv, lie down on couch and play away.

I would say the exact same about k&m, so awkward and clucky. Why use 4 different buttons, just to move l,r,u,d when you can do it with 1 finger on an anologue stick?

All the buttons, sticks etc are all i one place instead of spread out across a huge keyboard and an additional mouse.

The problem is with a controller you need massive amounts of aim assist in order to actually hit anything, because first person shooters on an analogue stick is incredibly inaccurate. You can't make tiny adjustments with the analogue stick, you have to dedicated an entire movement left, right, up or down and to do a slight movement in any of those directions you need to "tap" the analogue stick, which just doesn't give you the accuracy. With a mouse you have a flat surface on which you can move it as fast or as slow as you like, making the tiniest of adjustments with much better accuracy.

Not to mention you have to take your finger off the aim analogue stick to press the ABXY buttons on the 360 (unless you claw grip, bleh). This is all coming from a competitive Halo 2 player for 5 years. Now I play competitive fps games on the PC. The mouse and keyboard is objectively better - it's smoother, more accurate, has a higher skill cap and more rewarding to aim well with.

Stop stop stop! you're making me ill with all your anti kb+m fps nonsence, console forum is up one space:D

Just started playing metro 2033, any way always used a game pad, but after listening to the masses on here, decided to give it a go via keyboard

I just dont find it that fluent!, what I mean by that is, your having to press shift to crouch while pressing w to move forward while trying to keep ya eyes on the screen to see any things to kill

Am I missing something?

Are you saying that on a gamepad you only press 1 button at a ime and so pressing 2 on a keyboard is too complicated?

Also, i don't see the need to look at a keyboard and mouse (instead of the screen) any more than you need to look at a gamepad?

FPS on console/gamepad is blasphemy. Like alcohol-free beer. Like a women not doing BJs. Waste. Why would you torture yourself ?
Except the confort factor, a console doesn't have any benefits over the PC. (and I've been playing games since Suppaplex/Prehistoric/Alex Kidd/Golden Axe)

I bought a brand new PS3 slim last year, just so I can play RDR. The game is awsome, played most of it but I found it to be a real hassle, even with aim assist on; ruined half the fun. The console sits in the box ever since.

Hey perhaps we could run our own experiment on a game that supports pads properly, I know my money would be firmly on the keyboard and mouse side.

Why would you want a keyboard and mouse on your games console AND computer?

Why would you not want it supported? I'm not saying abandon the game pad I'm just saying give us the choice, plus it would make browsing the net on a console so much easier too.

Agreed.

I don't know any pro MLG console gamer that doesn't play at a desk. Sitting in a chair in a good position just does wonders for being able to play to the best of your ability.

I'll never get why people think gamepads are better for any genre.

FPS = Mouse = Precision
RTS = Keyboard = Macro. Mouse = Micro.
Racing = Steering Wheel.
Fighting = Joystick/Gamepad (not these 360 controllers, you gotta go oldschool box controllers with like 4buttons and a stick)

You'll never get through to the console players though, they expect that just because it's supposedly better to use a mouse/keyboard that they'll automatically just be amazing by swapping over.

I disagree :p

I find it more than accurate; you can make micro movement on the analogue sticks. Yes there’s aim assist but you can take it off, it’s not hard.

I find having one controller instead of 2 pieces of equipment less hassle. You don’t have to take your finger off the analogue stick to shoot, frag, knife etc just when you want to jump or something and when doing said actions you’re already facing the way you want in the first place.

The who A,W,D,S are just plain annoying, rather use the left analogue stick.

Plus a major major gripe for me is no rumble features in the mouse! Its feel so bland and un-rewarding. I love the rumble when your bullets are actually hitting the target, when firing a shotgun etc, just adds satisfaction. With a mouse just feels cheap, not rewarding at all. Explosions, being hit etc all to the experience with rumble.

Furthermore the triggers also allow a degree of control that’s not available on the mouse, you can squeeze half way to slow fire etc.

Also with the analogue stick it allows for better control when moving, you can walk by just pushing up slightly or run when pushed all the way. You can’t do that on a keyboard. You have to press two buttons like shift+w to run.

K&M needs to die! well for gaming anyway. I used to say pad for everything apart from RTS games, but saying that c&c was totally playable on the PS3.

You cant beat just kicking back and blasting away on a pad. I wont buy a game from now on that doesnt have support for an wireless xbox pad.
Amazing.... :/

You're playing for the fun factor. Not the competitive factor which is why you'll never understand a large part of the PC community especially when it comes to FPS games.
