Hi all

Looking for a Gas BBQ, doesn't need to be massive or expensive, any recommendations on stuff you've got/had?

Budget Upto £200

Cheers

Gonna be honest mate, and this isn't the usual OCUK snobbery "oh if you don't spend at least £5000 it won't be any good".

.....but, you'll struggle to get anything but the most basic of gas BBQ s for £200 and under.

In which case any Tesco/landman etc (all generic probably made in the same factory in China) will be much of a muchness, and don't expect it to last.

Even the Weber portable is heading towards £300.

I have a charbroil x200 grill2go, it's okay... It's working well now but I properly had to fanny about and basically replaced all of the gas regulator etc with my own custom setup.

This looks fairly decent:

+2, ive got the 4 burner version and its still like new 2 years later, more than £200 off at the moment.

As I've had to switch from charcoal to gas, coz stupid neighbour and just not being worth the constant hassle (i still get hassle :( ) I can recommend Nexgrill. The stainless steel build quality is bulletproof and it's lasted years, left out in all weather, while taken in during the winter months. Good price and great quality, although Costco have the best prices, so factor that in.

No such thing as a gas BBQ, it's an outdoor grill ;)
whole heartedly agree, You are looking for a large outdoor Hob @Minibiker lol

Yes I have a gas grill outside, it goes along with my proper kettle BBQ.
Its just far quicker should it be a spur of the moment decision or if people have their washing out.

However ignore the "you must spend hundreds" - Get along to Aldi, they've got most of their Summer Stuff with chunky discounts on ATM.
I blagged mine at Asda 2 year ago end of season sale, Uniflame, It's out this year for 200, I paid 40 lol
I don't think it's worthy of the 200 tag but Id say decent for around 100

The JL ones linked above look like theyre a good few tiers above the Uniflame tho

So does that mean when I smoke a nice shoulder of pork, delicately rubbed with seasoning and cooked low and slow over many hours that it is not BBQ?

So I'm now stuck as a lot of people say go charcoal, does anybody use these most of the year, I don't want to buy something that I can only really use in warmer weather

Neighbour moaning about the smell presumably?

My view is it really depends how you intend to use it and how much effort you want to put into it - if you're aiming to pop into the garden and cook something three or four evenings a week all summer, personally I couldn't be bothered with faffing around with charcoal to do that - too much time wasted on lighting it, letting it burn through, clearing it away later in the evening once it's cooled etc. If it's to be treated as more of an event but not very frequently then that arguably adds to the experience.

A bit like you might want a high revving manual sports car for weekend drives but the torquey diesel with an automatic gearbox is actually much better for every day usage even if it's not as much of an 'event' at the weekend.

Ideally get both.

I have 4 charcoal BBQs and one gas one.

2 of the charcoal ones are camping/portable though.

Of the two other charcoal I got 2 different Weber kettles, one smaller I use for direct cooking (steak basically) or burgers I guess, the larger one I'll do my joints in.

And then the gas one, the gas one gets by far the most use.

A bit like bloopers, luckily I spotted it, but I nearly wrote "I have 4 charcoal BBWs" a different thing entirely.....

Ohhhh Shaniqua.
