And we are off and running.
Booted into forth already with some stash and dump tatics Grrrrrr!

But it's much closer than last time :D

I had the stash and trash technique working last night :(

Got in late from work at 10.30, opened up Boinc to force an update and it couldn't connect to the local server, even waited for an hour and a half with that stupid message 'waiting to connect' displayed and all through this I could hear the hard drive chirping as each wu was loaded and trashed by the GTX's in runaway mode!

Finally got Boinc opened by uninstalling the GTX's and restarting in VGA mode, by then two thirds of the 1.6Gb cache were waiting upload and 932 units ready to report. Uploaded those and then reset the project, sorry for all the wasted wu's that will have to go around again guys.

I have always been suspicious of a faulty card due to the output which should have been a bit higher but never pinned it down until now, so my main rig is running on two GTX's although the U/S one is still fitted but I will swap it out asap.

Cheers, Simon.

Hi,

Swapped the u/s card out with a spare I had running at the office, apologies for the temporary dip but normal service now resumed, perhaps with a little extra help as well :D

Cheers, Simon.

Guys - apologies for my poor perfomance in the gauntlet so far. I've been away for the last week, when I left everything was crunching away fine. I connected remotely a few days ago to check everything was ok, only to find the seti project on the main rig had detached from the boinc manager! I got it going again but again it detached a day later.

I got back last night, I think it was something to do with the BAM connection, which I've now disabled, but now it's not recognising the 2 GPUs! I tried clearing and reinstalling the drivers but still not working at the moment. I'll have a good look tonight but for the moment I'm down to 2 dual cores. :(

Remote desktop will break GPU crunching

Agreed. I tried it with OpenVNC over my home network. It did work, but only just. Kept losing the connections for some reason, and I could never figure out why.

That's why I bought a KVM switch (all my rigs are in one corner of my living room).

Now everything is spot on (although the KVM does lose control of the mouse occasionally, which usually means I have to unplug all the connections to the KVM and reconnect them again, which is a real PITA!!).

I just copy a gui_rpc_auth.cfg file around the place and then administer PCs from a single BOINC manager. Obviously that's only good for administering BOINC itself, but it works. teamocuk.co.uk is configured this way too so I can configure its BOINC instance remotely - but don't get any funny ideas as it has been suitably firewalled. :p

Oh, and I sorted out my two Linux PCs (one of them being the aforementioned) that weren't running optimised clients, so there should be a bit more of a RAC gain from those.

I managed to get boinc and seti and cuda running stable as a service, also using boincview like zerker with the same file so I rarely have to remote onto any boxen

hmm, ok thanks guys that explains it. I don't think the dodgy wireless connection is helping either. I may have to bring the shed folder back inside for a bit until I can get something worked out, or at least until it's 100% stable.

I just wish I owned a GPU in the first place. I do some work in 16,000 seconds, and then a GPU wanders by and smacks it on the head in 350. :(

Best GPU I own is a 3850. Wrong camp. Next best is a 7xxx-series. Nope, that's no good either. :(
