Gay Pride

Irn Bru ad campagines are always amazing. They just get it down to a T.

Shame they've changed the recipe (the sugar content tax) and it's awful now.

Anyway, I like that companies do it. It's a bit of fun and light hearted and isn't offensive.

Exactly. Which is quite odd but definitely means you care.
I'll make it simple for you with a multiple choice question of only two answers, you've got a 50-50 chance of being right.

A) Is it that i care about a private company changing its logo (is that what they're doing?)
B) Or the effect such a thing is having on certain people.

Yeah...you're totally missing the point.

It sounds like you do have feelings and that you do care, TBH. Otherwise why even post in here? And even then, why continue to post if you didn't care?

Because it's now about winning an argument, not about the content of the argument.

Whooooosh.

Obviously for the vast majority of companies the top dogs don't care. It's pr and marketing driving it.

But it's still a good thing as it raises awareness.

I don't really care about such things. I'm not in that space. I don't know anyone affected by that. But I still think campaigns like this raise awareness. Same as animal cruelty (that I do care about).

Big names getting on the bandwagon are obviously doing it not with the best intentions. But the outcome is positive

Aside
I don't really understand where the spat is coming from or what is even about! :D

I had to google cis! Never knew what that meant. so if anything this logo stuff, whether or not is disingenuous or not or if it's just good PR, has taught me something.

I do think it's a little unnecessary but I guess if old farts like me learn something than it's having a positive impact?

The world seems like such a confusing place now, maybe even more so for younger folk, so many ways to offend people or upset people by using the wrong terms etc.. so I guess this messaging is important, but makes life a little uncomfortable/confusing/complicated, I do feel like I have to walk on eggshells a lot more than I used to. I guess being overcautious is better than not.. but at the same time it does feel like I can't be myself a little.

I can assure you it’s not complicated. Don’t be malicious or mean spirited, live and let live, you’ll get along fine. I’ve never known you to post outside those realms so I wouldn’t worry.

There’s a lot of permanently online, mostly mentally ill people, who will look for a fight or go out of their way to be offended. This tiny minority are extra loud. Ignore them.

The thing is, the gay people that I've known haven't really been easily offended at all as long as you aren't obviously being a dick. I had a conversation about it once with a gay bloke I used to work with and we agreed that there's no issue even with a bit of **** taking as long as it's clear that there isn't any malice involved. But that isn't the message that is put out these days, and I'm not even sure that the message has come from real gay / trans people.

Oh dont' get me wrong, I work with a very diverse group of people (I work in the innovation space) and I am always mindful of not being a dick, and never go out of my way to offend people. I just sometimes worry that I may say something which is deemed offensive! I always assume positive intent from people, but I'm very happy-go-lucky, and often lose myself in banter.

I don't think there's anything wrong with companies supporting it, but it would be nice to get to a stage where all this no longer needs to be highlighted and life can just go on without needing to highlight things.

It's not just gay people, the gamut of society is so broad now that you just cant' satisfy everyone all of the time, and someone will feel left out or victimised - which is a shame, but that just seems to be life.

But you're right as long as people assume positive intent and gently/friendly suggest that something was out of order that's far better than making a big scene. It does happen though, and no one should be made to feel inferior or victimised or isolated whether they're straight or not.
