GD may close for a while

Well that's what a clique is, an exclusive club. Like mensa. Application by appointment, that kind of thing.

Yes I know what it means, I was referring to you saying you dont see any private parts of the forum etc, which is not what I meant at all.

No it's just a general feeling. I do it all the time. I take less notice of people if I don't know they're name.

ive noticed this in all sections of the forum, and there was a thread about it (in a roundabout way) made by gilly iirc a few days ago - its all subconcious.

ive posted in the motors section maybe once since ive registered here. now i know there are people that will purely post in there and nowhere else so will be far more recognised in that section.

if i bought a car and needed some advice in there, sure i'd get it and with the same politeness as anyone but it might take a little longer as people will see the "locals" threads and always look at those first.

i even do it myself in the music forum, but i'll ususally check out all of the threads after a while.

So where on this forum, are you invited into a group of people by application only, or reccomendation or whatever?

I think you're confusing this with simple friendship and respect.

Gilly and the others, say what you want. There is a clique... defiantely 100%.

BUT, there is only a clique because of people going to meet's together, becomming friends. The older members (in terms of forum age, no birthday age) obviously are more known by as they see their name's mentioned more often. Is the "clique" turnings people's opinions and effecting GD decisions ? No... simple answer.

I'm not a big reader of the GD my self, more of a motor, sports and console poster (As the regulars in there will of seen), why ? Because of the poor state of the GD. I don't want to read what people are having for their lunch, in the GD I want to see proper discussions, not flaming.

Couple of ways in my eyes to solve this. Either people start to use the RTM button's more, or there are more mods on the forums.

Dicuss...

How can it be a clique if anyone can join by just becoming friends with the friendliest bunch on here?

Where in this thread, did I say that you had to be invited, by application only?

I am referring to attitudes, maybe you are right, I have confused all this with the word clique purely because it was used to describe it before.

a lot of it is down to friendship and respect, but this doesnt mean that someone you dont class as a friend should be treated disrespectfully, which I believe is what happens a lot of the time.

But THAT is that a clique is.

Don't make me grab a defintion from Google. :p
A clique by definition (Oxford English Dictionary) is a small exclusive group.

The key word here is exclusive. This doesn't mean it has to be a literal "by invitation only" members club. It can also be an exclusive "holier than thou" attitude amongst a group.

Thankyou, maybe we should form our own group as we seem to share the same opinons :p

Nowhere, but people keep referring to a clique, and that is exactly what it is. E.g. the stonecutters from The Simpsons, it was called a clique.

Admittely there is a thin line between a clique and a group of friends, simply because the clique are often friends anyway.

I'm sorry if anybody, including yourself has been insulted on the basis that they aren't there friend. Ever since I've joined, I've only seen arguements occur when people disagree over a topic, rather than the person themselves.

But a clique isn't open to everybody. Whereas a group of friends usually welcome anybody into their group (within tolerance)

I think before you post a thread in GD, you should post a thread saying "Is this thread a good idea - Yes/No?" with a short description of what you intend to post, then the Dons can set-up a poll on it.

Then if the results of the poll are overall in favour of 'Yes', you can make the thread

Who's with me?
