GD may close for a while

I think perhaps cliquey should have been the word used, to save all the confusion that has apparently set in on a few forum members.

I'm delighted to see so many people upholding the integrity of the English language. I believe that this is necessary to counter the evil Academie Francaise. ;)

I think before you post a thread in GD, you should post a thread saying "Is this thread a good idea - Yes/No?" with a short description of what you intend to post, then the Dons can set-up a poll on it.

Then if the results of the poll are overall in favour of 'Yes', you can make the thread

Who's with me?

Even better would be to 'Create a thread' which is accepted/rejected by the mods. If its accepted, it'll be moved to GD.

Maybe to much workload. Do whats best!

How can it be a clique if anyone can join by just becoming friends with the friendliest bunch on here?

Not just the friendliest bunch on here, that's not what I was getting it.

It was neither a dig, nor a cry to be accepted, it was mearly me stating a point.

Go along to a meet, you will form friends, who you can share inside jokes e.t.c with. Thats the clique you guys are so dearly trying to either become a part of, or blame for the forum falling apart.

It's not the thread subjects that make for a bad GD most of the time. It's normally the bickering and content that makes threads turn sour.

But a clique isn't open to everybody. Whereas a group of friends usually welcome anybody into their group (within tolerance)
but that's my point... there is an "in crowd".

You say it's just a buch of friends. I say there is a group here who are friendly amongst themselves, but disregard others opinions and reply to such posts with sarcasm and insults.

Now that we're back at square one let's leave it at that, eh? :)

Well I like to consider myself as having some friends/buddies on here, and I've never been to any sort of meet. Some people spend a fair amount of their online time here, you can't really blame them for becoming friends. It's a shame people are bitter about it, instead of joining in.

Where? Surely you have an example before any monthly pruning has occurred?

Dont know about anyone else but for me its the latter, I have nothing against people being friends etc, just that they treat certain people differently and therefore create an atmosphere in a way. I havent started a thread in GD for ages in fear of being flamed etc.

An example appears to have just being deleted, something along the lines of Who would win, Spiderman or Wolverine. I think it was G|mp (Sorry if it wasnt) who trashed the thread in one of the first posts.

Ok, so an individual trolls a thread and it gets deleted as a result.

That isn't any evidence towards a clique, or a group of friends or whatever, insulting people outside that clique.

I really don't want it to get personal. Though I see you seem to be taking it that way already.

That's upto you, but when you go around accusing people (naming no names) of insulting others, surely you must be prepared for someone to say; Where?

I probably overstep the mark here, but as they say up here, shy bairns get nowt. Is there much point in closing GD for 2 hours ? I don't think it will have a large impact to attain what is desired and spam will still continue and I know I am guilty as anyone for that.

Is it not a better policy to enforce the rules in terms of bitching and encourage spam rtm more that to close GD for a couple of hours ?

Closing GD will cause resentment on a big scale and I would argue that the fall out would do more harm than good.
