GD may close for a while

Oh man its open again already, oh well it will never change then, carry on with the pointless carp everyone, and ill see you in the next instalment of the GD is going to be closed thread. :(

Theres a hint there somewhere, if you want ppl to take notice then don't close it for a measly couple of hrs, as now everyone is saying bah was that it, ill carry on if all they are gona do is close it for a couple of hrs, and thus it will just go round and round, spamfest, pointless threads etc... then not long down the line yes you guessed it, 'GD is gona close thread' is going to appear again, and everyone will say 'well see you in a few hrs'

You see you forget GD was closed before like this, and what happened today, yes the same thing, so if they aint gona do anything about it apart from close it for a few hrs then as i say ill see you in the next 'GD is gona close thread' in a few months time as its just gona go on ad on like this, if ppl were gona learn they would have learned after the last time it was closed, but you see you have had to close it again, it won't work.

I only got the chance to read this thread while GD was closed (and I read all of it), so my comments will be a little late! One of the things that has been mentioned quite a lot is that GD takes a lot of moderating time, which is detrimental to the other parts of the forum. I agree with this -- but isn't the obvious solution to employ more moderators specifically for GD?

I remember when I first joined, one of the things that stood out to me most was how vigorous moderation was. Gilly was *everywhere* posting lots and moderating lots. He always seemed a bit harsh back then, but I realise now that's what it takes. No offense intended to the current crop of moderators, but I don't think there's anyone quite willing to take quite the amount of flak that Gilly was by making the decision to step into a thread when it started getting out of hand.

The thing that riles me most about GD is the constant thread derailment, be it through trolling, off-topic chatting or spamming. This thread is a good example - the first half of the thread was an interesting discussion of why GD was going to be closed. Then it turned into an argument, then a spamfest. It's indicative of a lot of the content of GD. I wish this kind of thing wasn't quite so accepted -- I have no problem with off-topic or random threads, but *please* keep on-topic threads free of trolling, spamming and argument please?

I know :D , but it was closed before, didn't work as clearly you can see its had to have been closed again, so round and round we go......... its obvious to every man and his dog that if it only closes for a couple of hrs then it won't stop it will it. :)

Yeah I don't think it will be a total solution but maybe it served as a reminder for people to think before they post.
 
I will say it again, as people glanced over.

The 2 hours were taken up by Baddass to go through GD and removed 2 pages worth of threads and edit / remove countless posts.

Hopefully now it is a cleaner start again and a mini hint dropped it will be easy to raise the standard slightly.

Credit to Baddass though, he spent an awful lot of time and got an awful lot done in it.

Hi,

I don't think stopping GD is a great idea, but I understand your reasons. I agree with previous posts, banning people is a much better strategy. Perhaps take a 'police like' zero tolerance stance?

It's a bit like a common room, somewhere to let off steam?

2 days would be good. A weekend would be ideal because it might encourage us all to go out and try and touch a girl.
