GD may close for a while

I think if they do decide to close GD OCUK would lose a lot of custom, as this is the most popular section for a reason, many users aren’t technically minded. Even if 10% of people in GD buy from OCUK that’s still a substantial amount of lost revenue.

I know next time I buy PC parts I would buy from OCUK simply out of loyalty (within reason), however I can't see myself hanging around if GD goes, for Gaming / Motors there’s better and bigger forums out there, its the community that keeps me (and many people) coming back.

On a side not I don't think this forum is any worse than others out there its simply a victim of its own success.

But I only joined on Sunday :(

I know a bit about hardware but not much.

In my opinion it is nice that people have a forum where they feel safe to ask questions others might find stupid.

Ok, yes some should be googled, but I think people really benefit from having personal advice. I'm sure this forum has been very helpful to people in a number of ways.

Whats the problem though? You might not want to help but others are happy to to. Those type of threads usually end up in debate anyway, its not usually a 2 post thread and thats it.

yep, I agree. But a lot of the time you can tell by what they're looking for. But even threads that have stated they wont first hand experiance. Seem to get the "google it" replie.

Seems harsh to punish everyone for the few inepts. I just come here to read the threads that interest me and post the odd opinion (like now).

And as one of the early posts stated, the people who post stupid/useless topics here will just branch out to the other forums on the board.

I dont see what can be realistically acheived by taking down GD for a period.

I think it's the short, sharp shock approach. Give people a taste of what they might lose and they might value it more .... and behave better.

But I also think it's throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Punish those that misbehave, not those that don't. To remove the forum (even temporarily) suggests to me that the official view is that misbehaviour is very widespread indeed.

So what are you saying: because the mods can't please everyone, they should please no-one?

Certainly not - i enjoy posting in GD however i feel that the forum has lost it's way from primarily a hardware overclocking forum, and if the GD is causing so many problems which eveidently it is, then something needs to be done.

What about "Does 0.9 recurring = 1"?

;) :D

in the real world 1 > 0.9
in maths 1= 0.9*

anyway back on topic......

How about deleting every thread for GD. Then just mod it really hard for a few weeks. I know its unfair on the mods. But it would get the message across.

Is it? I don't see how GD has affected it. This place hasn't been 'primarily a hardware overclocking forum' for a long time in my eyes, and the import of getting as high a clock out of your processor these days is less and less important with the advent of more and more powerful machines.

I think thats more the problem than GD.

depends how seriously you take it TBH, lots of Muslim posters are in here but most of them don't feel the need to fly the flag and complain and insult everytime they see something that disagrees with their religion, either rightly or wrongly

True and funnily enough you dont see them posting that often now do you;). Personally im just fed up of the usual crap that keeps coming up and thats why i now pass my time either in the console or mobile phone section. Plus ive found a few other forums where its a tad mroe friendlier and not so childish.
