Gears of War PC

Thats not what he meant. The game was designed around joypad controls, so he prefers to play it that way - which makes sense.

If the game difficulty isnt massively increased using kb/m controls, I'll be doing the same.

Thank you, thats exactly what i was getting at. For those who havent played gears, you need to pile the lead into some of the beasties. Twitchy point and click it definetly isnt.

I can't believe how many people agree with you here and elsewhere. This is simply untrue. The controller does not have the slightest chance beating the accuracy of a mouse.

nobody said it was more accurate that kb + mouse

have used kb & mouse since half life 1, by far the most accurate combination, obviously

we've just said that some types of games are suited for control pads, this and Resident Evil 4 being perfect examples, they're not first person, and they don't have CS accuracy, they're more arcadey than serious FPS games

don't jump at the opportunity to drill people without reading their post first..

rainbow 6 vegas

I'm not very knowledgeable in these things but... I thought the situation with vegas is that they purchased the Unreal 3 engine optimized for the xbox 360 (the same engine used for GOW), created Vegas on it and ported it over to the PC.

With Gears, which is made by epic - creators of both the 360 and PC versions of the engine, they will have full access to all the stuff they need to get gears running as well on the PC as UT3 itself does. Vegas was limited to the engine code available for the 360 at the time, the development of gears has full access to the PC version of the Unreal 3 engine.

This is especially apparent during close combat; with the controller you move around trying to aim like a geriatric, whereas with a mouse you probably would have done a headshot and made off home to make tea.

Have you actually played Gears of War? No way is this game going to work with the mouse and keyboard as well as it does with the controller. You'll definately be able to pull off headshots easier with the mouse, that goes without saying, but everything else.... not a chance.
Being a PC and console gamer I can honestly say Gears was designed for the control pad, it just feels right.

The issue isnt that the controls were designed for a gamepad controller. Its that gamepads are horible to use and after using the fantastic involvement a KB/mouse gives you the aiming/turning of a gamepad is blumming aweful!

Sorry thats the way I feel . I wasted £400 on buying an Xbox 3 weeks ago. I kmnow its great playing a console on the couch but for me going from a top end pc to trying to play on a dumbed down console really is a massive step downwards. I will buy Gears on the PC and will compare with my xbox experience to se waht I think. I tried on the xbox for 30 mins and hated the gamepad more than I hate the governments imigration policy. Andi suppose that says it all

I second that and agree 100% :)

People claiming that KB/Mouse would beat a Control pad in Gears of War must be dreaming and clearly have NEVER even touched the game. KB/Mouse may be more accurate then a Control pad in most scenarios, but it means nothing in this game. The only advantage you may have is with the sniper rifle, but if I'm ducking from cover to cover and constantly in your face you've got no chance of using that advantage.

Its possible that aint complete tosh, its not actually a FPS and a gamepad is better then keys and mouse in some games.

Still I dont see this is a big point, the 360 controller plugs right into a pc anyway

I was considering getting a 360 remote for the pc, is it a seperate controller or can it be used with 360/pc as i was looking at a wireless version if they were available. racing games are always better by controller.

Pretty much yeah.

R6:V was nigh on a straight dump of the Xbox code with minor tweaks to get it to load up, hence it ran like utter poo.

GoW on the other hand has been made from the ground up for PC, they have a separate team working on the PC version from the Xbox version, and like you say they are the people that built the engine so they know what they are doing.

Don't jump at the opportunity drill me without reading my post first also - my post was not personal.

Expressing a different view can be healthy and I still disagree that the 360 pad "suits the game perfectly" and yes, I'm actively playing the game alongside UT and TF2.

It takes all sorts of preferences I guess.... and as Hendrix once said, "it's all freedom".

Enjoy.

Exactly how I see it. I'd be very surprised if this game was good on PC at all. Very rarely are PC ports of console games made for a controller transferred to mouse and keyboard well.

I think it should make a good difference with mouse and keyboard, i really didnt like it that much on the 360, but im hoping the PC version will be more fun.

then it tells you the system spec that its running on. Looked great and ran perfect on a 8600GT, 2GB ram, C2D 2.2GHz.

Uber!, nice one, i'm looking forward to this one, never actually played it on the 360, guess i could try both KB+Mouse and the Pad.

I can't believe people are actually saying a gamepad is better... The game works very well with a gamepad granted - but that doesn't mean it'll be BETTER with a gamepad... I would be money on it being FAR easier to trace an enemy with the cursor with a mouse than it would a gamepad. Having an enemy and essentially getting a twitch shoot will be far easier with a mouse than a gamepad.

The gamepad will only move as far as the joystick's sensitivity is set, where-as a mouse will move as quick as the player can move their arm! To say that the only advantage a mouse user will have is using the sniper rifle is very naive indeed. Diving from cover to cover or not - it'll be FAR easier to hit you with a mouse than a gamepad.

There really is only one way to decide this. When the game is released, one team with pads, the other with mouse and keyboard. Bring on the violence!

Yes but is it more fun to sit hunched over your KB & Mouse right up at your desk.

Or is it better to use the pad, kick back on your chair feet up and blast some stuff...

For hardcore FPS'ing Mouse+KB can't be beat, but for single player 'consoley' type games like GoW and Lost Planet etc. the Gamepad is very good.

Hell I even played the entire of Bioshock using the pad without any problem.

Plus you get the rumble features which I find really adds to the game experience.
