It's more than possible, it's a key feature of games like Age Of Conan.

In NFS underground 1 i beleive PC players could play ps2 players.

Unfortunately in a dev video they stated that cross platform play would not be possible due to time constraints.

Yeah, and the Xbox 360 players would probably get auto-aim.
