Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

problem is - supply and demand

those that buy at these prices - perpetuate the problem

can I afford a GPU at 500 - of course - would I feel it a complete waste of money ? yup

Loving the rampant speculation about price/performance. It's fun and healthy for debate. Not loving the people who present opinion as fact and then ignore repeated requests to justify their claims. The truth always reveals it's self. True prices and true performance will be here for all to see soon. In the meantime, I'll sit back and enjoy my popcorn.

Its a waste of time presenting backing evidence around here. I used to a long time ago and certain people would just ignore it and then move onto (often borderline) personal attacks or character assassination if they didn't like what you were saying.

You shouldn't compromise your own integrity for the sake of others in such a situation.

ah that table was predicted models - thought it was from Nvidia ...

I'm still hoping for a 770 - which should IMO have 4gb minimum VRAM, minimum of a 320bit memory bus :)

it would seem a bit odd releasing premium $400 dollar cards and above with only 2gb VRAM when quite a lot of games already using all that and situation likely to get worse when the next gen consoles come out

Going by what I'm hearing I wont be jumping from my 7950 anytime soon, I havn't even overclocked it yet!

Agree with most comments re overpriced cards that can barely cope with modern games and I also agree that a lot of Pc gamers may turn to the new consoles. Seems to me these card manufacturers are not in touch with current financial situation for most people. :(

agreed - but people are obviously buying them

so do I blame the manufacturers for charging as much as they can ? and still sell ? unfortunately not

same has happened with AV amplifiers etc - you used to be able to buy a well built mid range receiver for £600 - for equivalent now you are talking (and only 4 years later) around £1500 for similar quality - some of that is inflation, exchange rates etc - but most is just they've found what people are prepared to pay

Hooray for the free market.
...and monopolisation :D

We seriously could use a 3rd company to knock some sense into Nvidia and AMD (Romance of Three Kingdoms style stand-off), but I seriously doubt it will ever happen...

It's really a shame that none of the companies back in the days survived alongside Nvidia and ATI.

Yep would love to see one of the big companies, say Dell for instance, do they have the finances to get into Gpu production? Would maybe give the other two a fright. Personally I don't know how much longer I can go on upgrading my Pc and justify it, I suspect I may already have my last discreet graphics card already. :)

.

Think the problem is a declining market. People have moved to consoles, less people buy PC's, less people probably buying dedicated graphics card. Not sure new competition will find a declining market attractive.
Some say the prices are pushing people to consoles but I think the opposite is true. For a company to make a profit and a decent enough performance jump between releases, when selling to less customers, the price has to be higher. Better higher prices than all of us forced to consoles for gaming?

Look at the share price of buy AMD and NVidia. I know both companies are different (AMD make processors) but neither company have exactly followed the upward trend of the stock market over the last few years.
