In GeForce RTX reviewer’s guide, NVIDIA is not using any other resolution than 4K. So all benchmarks (except VRMark Cyan Room) were performed at 3840×2160 resolution. In fact, the RTX 2080 series were ‘designed for 4K’, as the document claims.

This just means that the figures given in the reviewers guide are done at 4k, not that reviewers cannot test at different resolutions.

If you only updated your 6600K for playing at 2K, you didn't make a wise choice. You won't appreciate any difference at all in fps.

Again, this is a hobby and it's neat to be on the edge, but there's no need to misinform others.

Who said I’d play at 2k? I’m using it for video editing and 4k.

Why buy different brand cards anyways? To sell on eBay? No sympathy from me. If it was to cancel one to double your odds for a card on release? Guess what no sympathy from me.

You said that twice. With a card that you know is going to be in short supply then many people order 2 or even 3/4 and just cancel the rest when one of them shows up. It's commonplace.

I ordered a ti but am considering changing to a 2080 if it turns out that the big chip is a cooker. Nothing worse than a really hot GPU and I don't want to water cool.

Well, they can't. Eventually. But all of the people who Nvidia have sampled on this launch (and so covering all reviews that'll be available when the embargo expires) have signed an extremely restrictive multi-year NDA that puts them entirely under Nvidia's boot. Even AIBs aren't allowed to sample cards to people who aren't on Nvidia's approved list, so the only way to bypass it will be buying a card along with everybody else. So they'll do what they're told or face the wrath of Nvidia's legal department, one would imagine, given that the NDA is extremely broad and open to interpretation (meaning Nvidia can claim pretty much anything to be in breach of it). The reviews from people who aren't beholden to Nvidia likely won't arrive for at least a few days to a week after launch, depending on how quickly they can conduct their testing.

I take it you really don't like the NVidia NDA and have read it carefully and decided not to sign it, no Free sample for you to test then.

Also for al the NVidia bashers out there, if NVidia will only let reviewers bench in 4 k, how are they going to bench the raytracing effects, cos that only runs well enough to do 1080p.

There's no RT titles released to bench yet so-win win for NV as they don't want anyone to know you only get solid RT 60fps@720p

I only ordered from nvidia, now it’s cancelled I’ve ordered via evga.

Now the shock of the prices has waned I am wondering if I should have just bit the bullet
Can still get a vanilla 2080 for the same price as reveal day but the MSI "duke", and Asus/gigabyte 2080ti have both gone up.

No that’s just being ridiculous. It isn’t common place and certainly not on a card this expensive. Just order one, wait and be patient. Otherwise you’re just taking away a preorder from someone else. Plus I said that twice because there were two reasons why I’d have no sympathy.

Interesting, Turning was originally intended for Samsung 10nm but the process faced delays just like Intel 10nm so Nvidia had to redesigned Turing for TSMC 12nm FFN, the same process used for Volta.

If Nvidia had no delays with Turing on Samsung 10nm then Turing would had been launched in early 2018 with smaller dies and lower TDP power.

I would be surprise if TSMC 7nm process will face delays too.

What makes you think people purchase luxury items based on need? I pre-ordered 2080Ti because I wanted a 2080Ti and didn't want to get hit by supply delays - I suspect many other people did exactly the same.

You gain a position in the queue and if reviews are where you want them you get your card sooner.

If the reviews are crap or you arent sure you can cancel your order.

TSMC 7nm doesn't face delays though.
On the contrary, the process is so good, that AMD is releasing earlier than planned (by 6 months) some of their products. Like the Instinct Vega 20 cards. While EPYC Rome is succesfully been sampled for 4 months now.
