General Filament Chat

Refills only fit "gen 3" spools that is a problem for me
Same issue for me, all my spares were V2's.
Quick check on Facebook marketplace and grabbed 8 empty spools for £10 local to me, there's always the print a spool option but I've never been a fan.

Hoping someone here can help me.

I'd like to get some bushes printed up to slide on a metal rod for a brake pedal on a SIM racing set-up

Anyone got experience with different filaments in a mechanical situation like this?

Looking for something low friction obviously my brain immediately went to PTFE/Teflon but that seems very specialized from a quick Google.

Are there any other filaments I should be thinking of using?

I think you are overthinking it, most plastic will slide against metal.

I'd print it in petg (but then again I print almost everything in petg :D)

It comes with injected moulded plastic spacers but there is noticeable friction so hoping for something that glides a little better

Amazon have a silly deal on some Esun White PLA+ 3KG at the moment. I have had a few rolls of this stuff in different colours and the only issue i have ever had is when i respooled some so i could use in my AMS and it went really nasty brittle and fell to bits even though i had stored in vacuum sealed bag. Printing directly from the spool i have had no issues at all.

Your other option is any suitably strong filament and a recess in it to fit a bush.

Absolute nightmare getting Sunlu filament lately. No black PLA 2.0 refills, and no black HF Matte PETG. I don't know what their normal PETG is like but I dislike shiny PETG.

Once again, I wish there were more choice in refills!

I know for definite that Elegoo and Overture refills fit Bambu and Sunlu V3 spools, if that helps at all?

I really like Sunlu filament, I got 5 x 1kg free with my first ever printer, and I particularly like their PETG.

I bought a 4 pack of their Rapid PETG and was, pleasantly, surprised to see the spools were vacuum packed in foil not plastic.

I really don't get it.
Overture PLA Pro,
Black, prints fine
Yellow, Prints fine
White, prints fine
Grey, clogs, jams, seems to need the top end of the temp range (20c more than the others) and still doesn't print consistently.

Anyone else find that one colour of a reputable brand just doesn't work?

I tried overture once, think it was white, because I'd heard it was good, it wasnt, havent used it since.

I am on the look out for some decent black PLA deals this week. I did see some jayo pla meta for decent price however i didnt want to jump in and buy 10 rolls if it wasnt great.

Its strange how PETG is cheaper currently than PLA.

Should have said yesterday chap, I could have brought some of those Bambu PLA Basic refills over...

No worries. I ordered some of the Jayo PLA Meta as i got it for about £7 for 1.1KG. If you happen to come across any bambu spools i would appreciate if you let me know if you want to sell them. I often buy the refills now when they are on offer and i am slowly running out of spools. lol
