General RPG discussion (formally : DND + RPG)

are most of your players/GM from existing groups of people you know?
ive seen 413x who indicates playing with randoms with the number of similtaious games
imjust curious what people are doing to find groups, or if they already have groups
I started a group with family and friends - but the last two times we've wanted new players, I've done it via Reddit.

Im currently watchig a play though / picking it backup from the GCN youtube, it looks fun, but hard at the begining. Hubert is rather amusing in this version of the AP.
apparantly its quiet a hard AP, with some isssues later on.
Currently all the groups that I play with (I'm GMing with 3 at present) are made up of people that I've joined up with online, which all began as strangers to me.

The group I play with the fellow OCUK forum members (5 of us) is one we formed around 2015 and have been playing with a bit of a rotating GM setup for each campaign - we started off with D&D and most of our games have been in that system, but we've branched out a couple of times to other systems like PF2e, Call of Cthulhu, Coriolis and World of Darkness.

I then have two D&D groups that I GM for that I gained via the D&D Beyond website, one of them was an existing group that were looking for a new GM and the other was one that I put together a recruitment advert for. Both of the groups from D&D Beyond have been playing D&D with me in the same homebrew world for around 3-4 years with a couple of new people coming and going over that time.

I think I watched the first episode of the GCN one to give a bit of an idea about the theme but haven't seen much else of it (avoiding watching more as I don't want that to influence how we run it) - based on some of their other stuff, I'd imagine they've toned down the combat for more of a storybased approach. It can be a bit of a nuisance AP to run as it's one that mentions a lot of things and places, but then doesn't give you any information on them, so you have to go digging through old lore pages to have the answers that are almost certainly going to be asked.

In the earlier parts of the AP, we found that even the more basic minions were landing critical hits with most of their attacks... quite a few of them were landing criticals on a roll of 10+ on the dice and there's a lot of combat very close together in some of the early areas.

The AP has a few really hard sections and some really poorly thought out sections in the later parts. There's one part in particular that I've spotted that I'm going to 100% change/remove, a part in the book that has a chance that the players get completely lost in the wilderness for a ridiculous amount of time.

so i was debating sharing this but i think its interesting.
one of the authorise i read : RavensDagger

who is writing Stray Cat Strut and other stories but this is how i pucked the author up.

they wanted to do an RPG, they've been creating it sort of semi live, see post :
Stray Cat Strut RPG
there plans isnt to monitise the rules but to send them to RPG Drive through or free.

its interesting as they have been sharing various iterations as going with non paid members of the patreon group as well.
you can see the file on the link above.

in the bookthe leveling is based on points and buying cataloges overtradetional leveling, but in the rpg ithink they've gone the level route for ease.

there is a kickstarter, but thats more for artwork support which is expensive.

i just thought it was interesting enough people here might enjoy watching evelopment

I have 2 main games.

One is from people I worked with years ago. We are on the same campaign from during covid when we started!

The other is a newish campaign where DM put out a Facebook post on the TTRPG Cardiff Facebook group that he was looking for players.

The 3rd part is a random series of 1 shots called adventurers league. But as I have 2 campaigns I rarely go to that now

Currently in a weekly one in person at local gaming club and also an online one once/twice a month depending on peoples schedules

a large selection of core rule books
I.E
war hammer
mask new generation
last air bender
cyberpunk red

to name but a few.

this one:
evolved from the stray cat strut book series
and will be something like £1 on rpg drive through when it releases, the kickstarter is more for art work. but people might enjoy it once its released of the books them selfs.
there is a free wip copy if people are interested https://www.patreon.com/posts/scs-ttrpg-update-130962666
if you sign up to free tier.

im working through the DND section at moment and will look first at a local store hosting dnd i think. i know theres one in london as well if the local one doesnt pan out : https://www.arcadiagames.co.uk
so i think those might be my first stop. thanks for the comments so far.

There's also a great bundle for the Numenera RPG books on Humble Bundle, it's a great system for anyone who likes their games to have a blend of fantasy and sci-fi.
Or, if people are just looking for content to mix into their own games, the books have a lot of useful bits and pieces that can be take and adapted.

Well my regular game is well over 18 months old possibly close to 2 years. We've had a few players drop in and out but still got a good core. We only play fortnightly and we're all at level 7 it's been interesting for me learning the game. I'm more confident with what I'm doing now and there is a decent rapport amongst the group with some mild joshing. We were offered the opportunity to restart with new characters but I'm happy plodding on for the moment to get a bit more experience with some of the higher level mechanics. The current campaign is a re-worked BECMI Adventure which is detective oriented a change from our previous one that was a bit more combat focussed. I can't say I'm a min-maxxer by any stretch but I'm now thinking a little more about how to more effectively use my character as opposed to just survive :-D
