Today is the year I go OLED, should be a nice upgrade from my Panasonic plasma, was waiting for HDMI 2.1 before I jumped in.

Not a great review for Sony's XG95, and I'm gutted about that since I've been set on getting the 85" model when it's out.

I'd trust them over flatpanels
They tested the 55" version though, not the large panels with the wide angle tech which seems to cause problems.
...as we discussed before, rtings don't disclose the number of dimming zones
Samsung 2019 are touting wider viewing angles too (vincents video was it from qled thread), maybe that will be more effective, otherwise,
that could be a limiting capability, if you want, up close, on a big screen.

dimming zones on the XF/XG range is around 50-60 depending on the size of the panel. their higher end model has over 1500 dimming zones but costs a lot more and only available in 75"+.

the new flatpanels review still reproaches sony for limited zone counts ... personally would not pay a premium for a few zones.
Yeah, that's too bad. Was gonna suggest the ZF9 since they're essentially similarly priced even though the ZF9 is superior, but forgot they don't do that in 85''. A shame.
Mind you, the XG95 is still gonna look phenomenal imo, it's just not going to be super top-end - but then neither is the price. At least for the size & price, it has no competition. Something better in 85'' (or 82'') is not gonna run you any less than double the price, and even then the "better" part isn't going to be all that significant without going WAY past double the cost.

you arent paying a premium though 65" xf90 is only £1049
find me a brand new 65" with 1500+ zones for £1049 and i'll buy 10 of them
.... Taking this years sony's on jl xg95 1800 / xg85 1400 so 30% premium (... soon down to 2018 model prices, so £1000:£700)
seems same processor, but you pay £400 more for 50 zone fald which demonstrably (see flatpanels video) is not so useful in dark viewing, with its VA viewing angles,
versus xg85 IPS panel which will have similar performance, especially in daylight, and wide viewing angle experience in dark similar to xg95.

Good to see them go with 960hz for flicker, finally I can consider them. Not impressed compared to the zf9 but we can't properly assess 8k yet - hopefully later in the year with Navi. That will be the deciding factor.

All refurbished for £1049 for the 65" that I can find on HUKD and its the odd one. There are some refurbs just as much as the current new price depends on the grade of refurb A or B.. Basically junk that will have some issue that will annoy most people buying such a TV or a future failure with a 90 day warranty.
They have never sold brand new for that. I can't find that new deal you are on about there and even if it was there, I bet they did not live up to it and basically said it was wrongly priced and really was done to get people to click their site as many companies were doing on black Friday and the January sales.
If the 65" was that I wouldn't have spent £2200 on the 75" version from RS with their £100 extra off offer at the time.. The 65" had the £50 off voucher from RS and no one would price match them at the time and then currys had the 75" for a week the same price and removed it.
