'Generic' Shooter

Nice, this thread has turned into a 360 game versus ps3 game ( or vice versa ).

Some peoples agenda's are really visible for all to see.

No it hasn't at all, we're comparing two different FPS. One being on 360 and one on PS3 has nothing to do with it, we could just as easily be comparing COD4 and Resistance.

yes, but so did other launch titles. And it wasn't actually anything new. Its no different than say waggling the analogue stick to shake an enemy off you.

I don't understand how sixaxis wasn't actually anything new on a launch title? It wasnt used on previous consoles. For FPS Resistance was the first title to implement it the way it did. Shaking the controller and moving the analog sticks is completely different imo.

Call of Duty 3, R6 Vegas and F.E.A.R. were the only other FPS launch titles. COD3 it was used to melee (and badly), R6 a camera and it wasn't actually implemented in F.E.A.R iirc.

& Mr. Men FPS titles.

I think people are funny if they get wound up over titles or descriptions of games.

All FPS games are generic, they all require you to go from A to B, shooting things and achieving objectives along the way. This then changed when multiplayer FPS came out, then these became generic as well.

All Platform games are generic, they require you to get to the end of a level without dying and perhaps picking up something, coins etc.

Games are very generic and there is nothing that can be done to change this, people like styles of games, be it driving, sports, shooting, puzzles, they are all generic games and very rarely, something comes along that invents a new genre.

Well I managed to play the entire game co-op without ever using the sixaxis, so Id hardly say it was that well implemented. It didn't affect the gameplay in any way really.

So now shaking the controller on one or two separate incidences (none in most playthroughs) is now a Great Thing And Stops Resistance Being Generic? Trying to pass off the terrible, awful, shockingly bad sixaxis as a revelation is dumb, especially when we're seeing patches for Lair bringing back analog controls and leaving motion sensing off by default in Warhawk and Motorstorm, and so on.

'It's so good, you shake it when some **** jumps on you in some faceless shoot-em-up' - as if! If I want substantial motion sensing controls, I'd play on a Wii which trounces the sixaxis functionality any time of the day. Resistance's tacked on sixaxis functionality has nothing on the premises Halo bought to the table back in 2001. If the discussion's gone this far that it's over a massively insignifcant and unimportant premise of Resistance's gameplay that in most playthroughs is never experienced, then that's not looking too great then is it?

The industry relies on them due to the money they make

they are easy to produce and are suitable for the generic low skilled gamer who wants to shoot lots of very dumb enemies in a linear a -> b fashion
