Geolocation testing

Hi all.

Looking at trying to use geolocation techniques (learning about it really) and wondered if you guys could give me a test to see if the script I have written is quessing near enough where you are browsing from.

The URL is http://geo.0hai.com/index.php

If you could visit and give me a yes / no whether or not its guessed right (as well as telling me your IP subnet and location if its completely wrong - via email probably the best) it would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing nefarius, no logging anywhere - just getting interested in it all :)

Ah see I did a few tests and it got 7 out f 7 for me and a few friends, come on here and get shot down to pieces......damn Internet!! ;)

Glad to see it is getting stuff wrong though - will help in the tuning of stuff behind the scenes.

I know that its possible to get it located to Leicester, as I often see ad's saying "meet singles from Leicester" blah blah
 
cheers shifty - like I said, only just getting into all this and was interested in trying to get decent results (not there yet by the look of it!!!).

If people getting wrong results wouldn't mind emailing me the first 3 parts of the IP address (xx.xx.xx) and where they are and where my script guessed they were to my email in trust it would be greatly appreciated.

Want to find out where its all gone pete tong!
 
There's no way to do this... WHOIS data will only show where the ISP is. Some ISPs like some cable providers used to put the exchange name in the hostnames but not sure if they still do.

Other than that... no way this can work.

couldn't you add this yourself? a button that will post the results to you and allow the user to fill in where they are actually located.

Wrong, Birmingham. BT have a large chunk of their network based in Swansea though.

This is not using whois data though, its a bit of a mish mash of databases, scripting and some checking.

Its because most of the places out there use whois that made me look into different ways of looking at geo data.
