German court rules circumcision is 'bodily harm'

Good decision. It should be banned here as well with regards to parents deciding for children.

Though personally I had to have a circumcision a few months ago, and tbh I wish my parents had decided for me when I was a kid ....It was agony!

Bad decision imo, all this will do is push it underground then i wonder how the Germans will deal with it?? if at all??

Not so sure about this, babies are often checked over by GPs, I can't imagine it being hard for a GP to report the parents of a baby that has suddenly had its nob chopped off.

Severe jail sentences?

Hopefully more countries in Europe will follow this.

And yes I'm religious, I think it's disgusting that people think they've got a right to mutilate a child.

Is OK for religious and medical reasons, none other though, unless they have a choice. I chose to be circumcised, and I am a muslim :)

This is fundamentally wrong as it infringes on the right of parents to decide what is best for their child, that includes what faith it will be taught.
Either there is freedom of religion or there isn't, and banning this is banning a central part of Jewish faith, it is a rite of passage for them.

Still, nothing like having a pop at people's beliefs if they don't match yours.

You didn't choose to be circumcised, you're too young to consent. Your parents chose for you.

It's not OK for religious purposes.

So what if my religion was to tattoo a swastika on children's foreheads at age 4?

Religion doesn't trump basic human rights.

Its only a bit of skin lol, true you do have a point but i imagine people will find a way to circumvent that issue;)....where theres a will theres a way

I can't imagine there ever being a medical reason to mutilate children.

You know what I meant. I hope, anyway.

I'm pretty sure you could cook up some extremely harsh sentences for the mutilation of infant children. People would think twice then, after all, it's a long, long way from being essential or even required at all.

Which right is more important?

The right of a parent to choose to physically mutilate their child permanently or the right of the child to not be mutilated and choose the fate of their own body and beliefs?

I'd go with the latter - I suspect many religious folks would go with the former.
