German Grand Prix 2012, Hockenheim - Race 10/20

The main thing was button is a big girl in terms of finding the limit of the track so him getting new tyres(am I getting that wrong, I thought he got a fresh set of wet's but Hamilton in his interview seemed to think Button didn't do that), Alonso/last guys just had new tyres on a drying track.

Early on there were loads of points they were aquaplaning then at the end Schmu/Hamilton had wore rubber so even though the heaviest water parts had gone, their tyres were probably worn down while the guys with the freshest rubber could now go significantly faster through the wettest sections.

I'm actually not sure what the situation is, if it starts wet tomorrow, do they have to start on the wet tyres they qualify on or can they put fresh wet's on?

Either way I get the impression Hamilton/Schumi could both have gone significantly faster on fresh tyres, and Button went faster on dry tyres BUT was painfully slow to start with and needed more laps to really get a "good" time.

Alonso though on his first pole lap looked insanely close to all tyres off the track when they skip across the edge of the corner, and on his last lap he went well wide which in terms of powering through let him get away with going faster than he should have, but I don't think that would be a penalty unlike the first corner.

Meh, not great by Mclown, they got the going out early part but Alonso made the potentially ballsy move of fresh tyres and 2 chances at a good lap, Hamilton or the team, and Schumi stayed on the older rubber and it cost them by a couple seconds each, at least.

Thankfully Hamilton looked pretty good in the dry, with great pace on the harder tyre, the softer tyre was a mixed bag, in the past 3-4 races we've seen some teams struggle on one set of tyres over the other, while earlier in the season most people always did better on the softer tyre. Mclaren might be strong on the harder tyre but might be rubbish on the soft tyre again, assuming its dry tomorrow.

Should be a good start to the race.

Alonso for the championship then.

I'm not so sure.
For the last 2 seasons, for whatever reason, RBR always come back after the month-long holiday with the best car and win the next 2-3 races. Assuming that this will be the case, Alonso will be giving away points to the RBR drivers for 3 races, after the break.

Clearly RBR have the best car, so Alonso (as in 2010), will have to be in top form to hang on to the RBR cars.

Basically, what we are seeing is
Best car (RBR) + 2nd best driver (Vettel)
VS
2nd Best car (Ferrari) + Best driver (Alonso).

I think its going to be close and could quite possibly go down to the last race of the season.

With regards to Hamilton - its going to be difficult for him to compete. He isn't as good as Vettel or Alonso, which means that McLaren NEED to give him the best car on the grid, for him to match or beat Vettel and Alonso's point scoring rate. And right now, McLaren appear to have the 3rd best car (behind RBR and Ferrari), which leads me to believe that as the season progresses, Hamilton is likely to lose ground to the leaders.

If Hamilton wants to win another title, he has to hope that McLaren (in the coming years), produce a ridiculously fast car OR he moves to a team which agrees to base their entire effort around him, giving him outright No.1 status. Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel and MSc - all do well in this scenario. Personally, if I were him, I would move to Lotus/Renault/Genii (or whatever they are calling themselves these days) and get a written guarantee of No.1 status (with Kimi shifted to another team or retirement and Grosjean as his No.2).

hulkenberg is destroying him even though he was out of the sport for over a year.

mercedes engine deal will only save di resta for aslong as FI want him.

if he wants to go to a bigger team he needs to do it fast before hes an "also ran" as without mercedes money i dont think he can stay on the grid through talent

an ever growing list and the top because british news papers say so?

why would a team backed by germans that has wanted an all german lineup so far take di resta over hulkenberg?

di resta will goto mclaren if anywhere or probably fall of the radar

How do you work that one out? Di Resta has 27 points to Hulkenberg's 17.
Di Resta has finished ahead of Hulkenberg in 6 out of 9 races.

If that's your idea of Hulkenberg "destroying" Di Resta then I don't really know what to say :p

Its just the usual drivel unfortunately. I rate Hulk but don't forget he has quite a bit of time in the car last season on the Fridays at FI. I would still put Di Resta ahead as an overall driver, even if they had the same points.

Yeah the stats speak at the end of the day. Di Resta is outperforming Hulk so far this season. He'll probably end up at Merc next season. I can see Schumacher calling it a day after this season.

This, I thought, was quite telling in Ross Brawn's pre qual interview with Simon... he said something along the lines of 2014 being about big reg changes which we all know and that they want to get some consistency in place before then (2013)... so I reckon Di Resta will be in his seat next year.

Could be wrong though!

Given the poster, are you surprised?

That interview seemed to be very telling. The long pause followed by avoiding giving an answer when asked if Schumacher would be staying next year said it all, tbh.

Perez gets a 5 place grid drop for being involved in 2 similar incidents in the same session...

Thats a new one.

If blocking, it's a 5 place drop... 2 similar incidents should be a 10 place drop....

not suprised at all.

why do you people still think schumacher is leaving when insiders keep saying hes got atleast a 1 year contract signed?

even james allen says it on his website hes utterly convinced of the fact the way he posted it was as if it was a fact.

Didn't watch the Sky build up, did you?

On another note, complete and utter epic fail by the FIA in the GP3 race. Didn't postpone the start as the rain clouds came in, so everyone was forced to start on slicks. Started behind the SC in pouring rain, everyone pitted and put on wets, then after that on lap 2 they red flagged it. Then waited for aaaaaaaaaaaaaages to get restarted, and processioned around behind the SC for lap after lap after lap. I'm currently at 11 laps to go and still they are going around behind the SC with a dry line and zero spray...and the SC is due to go in, with rain scheduled in 2 minutes time.....

Charlie you complete idiot!
