To me it just looks like a slight bulge to fit with the contour of the engine cover. You can see on the engine cover behind it where it connects together. Just looks like the light on the shiny paint is making it look more curved than it it.

And also the fact that aero flipups and wings in that area are banned :p

Eh? There is no step. It's still a smooth curve.

They did do an experiment at a couple of races on the fridays with a lump across the front of the chassis of the cars to simulate the visibility for the drivers with a higher chassis. Made the car look like it had a stepped nose.

Will reserve judgement on the new McLaren bodywork until I've seen it on the car. As the engine cover and sidepods are seperate parts, they're not in the best position to figure out whats going on.

You're right, seems like an optical illusion which is making me see it as a big piece sticking out
 
Need more pics of the McLaren updates.


What's the weather like for this race? (yes I know its only Thursday and it could change)
 
I watched the 1995 and 1996 season reviews from the Sky F1 channel over the last couple of days. Have decided I miss the old Hockenheim :(
