German Grand Prix 2012, Hockenheim - Race 10/20

Who is she? New, or have Sky shipped her in from their other programming?

She usually reports on F1 for Sky Sports News along with Craig Slater, been doing it since Sky started covering the sport and was a SSN presenter before that (and probably still will be off-season).

because it gives the fastest car a a clear advantage ?

usually one team is head and shoulders above the rest and i doubt f1 will stay like it is now for very long.

once normal order is restored the fastest car would have a silly advantage if they got points for pole and FL

i bet if someone backdated that over the years most seasons wouldnt have been anywhere near a title clincher at the end of the season

No it wouldn't, not with the current set of rules anyway. Other strategies could come into play e.g. Cars at the back could afford to stop for tyres to get the lap. We have also seen lots of cars get the fastest lap this year that haven't necessarily been the fastest.

IIRC, they used to award a point for fastest lap back in the 50s. Unsure when they stopped it, but I agree, it would add an extra dimension as its not often the winner who gets the fastest lap. Could throw up some interesting or exciting situations, if say 2 or 3 point were available...

I dislike the idea of points for fastest laps.

Would probably have only made a difference in 2008, so we might have seen Kimi win the title again and not Hamilton.

Hamilton has never won the season fastest laps award. He'd be screwed.

So, does this Lotus DDRS F-Duct hybrid only work when the DRS flap is open? Crofty mentioned it contained a 'fluid switch'* that activated at a certain speed. So does that mean it starts blowing at high speeds with the DRS closed?

*air is considered a fluid by F1 teams, so before anyone suggests mechanical moving parts, its not, its something trick with where the air is directed when travelling at certain speeds though passive pipework.

If it is automatically activated at speed then it has the potential to be epic at Spa and Monza...

Its what the original F Duct idea was all about before McLaren thought of driver activating it. I think it was Toyota, or maybe Ferrari in 2009 that had a slot in the rear wing that was designed to stall the wing when at high speed. The passive idea was shelved while everyone looked at the active ones for 2010.

Aww rubbish. Rain at the end of P3, how am I going to figure out my predictions now!

Webber joins Rosberg and Fat John, another one with a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox change.

So whatever the final grid is, move Fat John back 5 places, then move Rosberg back 5, then Webber...
