German Grand Prix 2013, Nürburgring - Race 9/19

I still think Vettel will win this year, plus Mercedes aren't entirely out of the woods with their tyre deg neither. Look at Rosberg's left rear going around Luffield shortly before the last Safety Car came out, he was very lucky that the SC did indeed come out as that tyre was heading no where else other than a delamination!

vettel is too far ahead i think. rbr will be at the front all season merc have only just got there in the cooler races. when it gets hotter we could see them drop back again with tire trouble.

hopefully next year is his year!

thought i still hope an amazing comeback is on for this season.

I wish they would be more extreme with the tyres,

Soft and Medium isnt extreme. We should get something like hard and soft, so there is a considerable different on the tyres and it opens up a huge window in strategies.

After the events of Silverstone, but even before then, the direction of compound choices for the rest of the season can confidently be predicted to be conservative. Furthermore, if the Kevlar-belted tyre that Pirelli wished to introduce from Canada but was prevented from doing, is now introduced, it will have the side effect of reducing rear temperatures by around 10-deg C. This will be of enormous help to Mercedes, giving it a much better chance of maintaining its dazzling qualifying form into the races - possibly to such an extent that we may see one or both of the Mercedes drivers coming back at Vettel in the championship.

I guess the proof is in the pudding, can't wait to see what happens over the European Leg of F1 now. If Hamilton can get himself right up there with Vettel before we go to Asia things could get very interesting.

Looking forward to this. Mercedes seem to be developing their cars nicely and I'm hoping for a Lewis win in Germany. However, Pirelli's comedy exploding tyres may spoil the party. :(

Hamilton hasn't had that much bad luck. He still finished the race and scored decent points.

Nico is the one with the bad luck. He's suffered two retirements so far, otherwise he's be ahead of Lewis in the Championship. I think they gave him Schumacher's car. haha

Sure, but losing a first place is a lot more costly than a 4th or a 6th, not to mention the fact that Rosberg gained 10 points due to Hamilton and Vettel's misfortune last weekend. Combine that with Hamilton's 5 place penalty for a gearbox change, and I'd say that they're pretty even on the bad luck count now.

Starting not to look forward to races, just knowing my team will probably keep going backwards from now

I might actually not bother with this one if the weather is nice. Not missed a race in years
Least I didn't subscribe to sky

They did have a gap between tyre types (except for Monaco and Canada iirc), but seemed to have stopped doing it

You watch just because of one team? Are you Itailian? :p

Which team out if interest?

Gap is usless until they remove the two compound use.

Let cars like force India which are light on the tyres try a one stop on hard, while mercedes does a 3 stop on softs and hopefully by the end of the race they are about equal. This will change race to race, but at least it would allow more strategy. The two compound rule is just utterly stupid.

I'm pretty sure its a leftover from the indestructible bridgestone days where the cars could happily complete the entire race on one set of tyres. with these new explode-o-matic pirellis we could happily get rid of the rule now

The rule is a hang over from the Bridgestones where the FIA wanted to ensure at least 1 pitstop without actually mandating a number of stops.

I've always said the tyre rules are the biggest problem with the tyre situation rather than the compounds. The teams need more sets and free choice of which compounds to run.

What are the MotoGP rules?

The DTM rules are halfway there. They have introduced a soft tyre that must be used during the race, but while teams will also use them in qualifying there's no restriction on when they use them in the race.
