German Grand Prix 2013, Nürburgring - Race 9/19

How many failures happened at Indianapolis to cause all the Michelin teams to not race?

Think there were a few during Practice. It was all because of that last corner. The final straw was Ralf walling it there at massive speed and breaking some bones in his back.

Remember that during the 2005 Season they had to complete the Race on a single set of tyres, which around there would have been suicidal for the Michelin runners. One of the most ridiculous rules I've ever seen implemented and I'm surprised that it even lasted the season.

Can't remember but I think in that case Michelin realised early on that their tyres were not 100% safe with the banked curving and alerted the teams to it, rather than ignoring an issue in practice and then trying to shift the blame everywhere else after it all blew up. ;)

I doubt there will be blowouts this weeked though, for one thing Pirelli will be playing it really safe and another the track is less demanding.

Maybe, but it would only take 1 failure for everyone to suddenly get very nervous.

Its the cars behind that should be scared. A few KGs of rubber and steel flying at 200mph towards your head doesn't bear thinking about.

Yeah, there was just one complete failure at Indianapolis as I remember, but photos of horribly, horribly distorted left-rear tyres coming through the banking were rather unsettling.

The issue wasn't so much the banking as the new diamond-cut tarmac, which Bridgestone knew full well about (and had data from the Indy 500 earlier that year) but Michelin had had no notification of any surface change.

Lewis does a better job then MB on sky :)

EDIT so all teams must stick to some rules for this race with tires. No more changing them around no more extreme camber ect.
